As vinyl and linoleum floors age, waxing helps maintain their shine and protects them from further wear, tears, and scratches. It is possible to wax wood, tile, and epoxy floors.Even after you clean the floor, it can still look dirty because of the layers of wax that build up over time. Before waxing again, you should strip the old wax.Remove furniture from the floors you are cleaning, sweep up any loose debris, and mop to remove dirt before stripping the wax build up.
Step 1: Remove old wax from vinyl with dishwasher detergent and ammonia.
Use a sponge mop to saturate your floor with a solution of 2 gallons of hot water, 1 cup of non-bleaching powder dishwasher detergent and 2 cups of ammonia.Allow the solution to sit on the floor for a while.Use the scrubber edge of the mop or scrub brush to scrub gently.Go over the floor with clear hot water and use your scrubber to remove wax.It is possible to scrub corners and baseboards by hand.Use old towels or rags to dry the floor.
Step 2: The mop has a solution of water and ammonia.
Combine 12 cup of ammonia with 2 gallons of warm water. This solution can be used to mop your floor.Allow it to sit on the floor for at least ten minutes to eat.Use old towels to dry the floor. If you have to remove the wax, repeat the process.Hot water can be used to clean floors.2 gallons (7.57 L) of hot water and a hard foam mop should be used.
Step 3: Laundry detergent, ammonia, and warm water can be used on tile floors.
A solution of ammonia, laundry detergent, and a gallon of warm water is all you need to clean your tile floor.Allow the solution to sit on the floor for a while.Use a scrubbing sponge or stiff scrub brush to clean the floor.Remove the solution from the floor. Before applying new wax, dry with old towels or rags.If you want to try the same stripping method on your tile floors, you should use a solution of 1 cup of white vinegar, 1 Cup of ammonia, and 1 gallon of warm water.
Step 4: Club soda is used to scrub vinyl floors.
Club soda can be poured directly on the floor.Use a scrubbing sponge or a stiff scrub brush. After a few minutes, wipe the floor dry.
Step 5: A chemical floor-polish stripper can be used to remove wax from stone tiles.
You should buy a polish stripper that is made for the stone you have. The polish-stripper should be applied liberally to a section of the floor. After 10 minutes, scrub it vigorously with a wire brush. To remove stripping products from the floor, wipe the stripper with rags and mop the section with clean water.Continue this process until you have cleaned and mopped the floor. The stripping pad on the floor buffer can be used to scrub the polish. The wet/dry vacuum has a squeegee attachment.
Step 6: There is a solution of cream of tartar and vinegar.
The cream of tartar should be mixed into 1 gallon (3.785 L) of white vinegar.Let the solution sit on the floor for about 5 minutes.A nylon scrubbing pad is used to scrub a section of the floor.Move onto the next section of the floor by wiping with a damp cloth or sponge. In areas that still have wax build up, repeat this process.
Step 7: An alcohol solution is what you should try.
3 parts water and 1 part alcohol.Put on rubber gloves and open your windows to get some fresh air in the room.Use the water and alcohol solution to scrub the floor.
Step 8: It's a good idea to rinse and dry the floor.
After you have scrubbed the floor with either the cream of Tartar or the isopropyl alcohol solution, you should wash it with warm water.Use old towels or rags to dry the floor.Fresh wax can be applied once the floor is dry.
Step 9: Use mineral spirits to scrub the floor.
Rub the wood with mineral spirits. It is possible to use fast-drying naphtha.Use fine steel wool or old rags to scrub away the old wax.
Step 10: It's a good idea to wipe and dry the floors.
After you scrub away the wax, wipe it up with clean, soft rags.Rub it dry.Make sure the floor is completely dry to prevent damage to the wood.Apply fresh wax and clean the floor.
Step 11: Use safety precautions.
Take care of the room as you scrub the floor. To dispose of your old rags and steel wool, wear rubber gloves. If you are using naphtha, wear goggles to protect your eyes.If you want to dispose of the rags at a hazardous waste disposal facility, you need to store them in an airtight container.
