A clock can serve as an impressive piece of art if it tells the time and prevents us from running late. There are many ways to recreate beautiful and ornate clocks cheaply using do-it-yourself methods. You don't need a lot of time, creativity or motivation to get started.
Step 1: The supplies should be gathered.
To make a floating clock, you need the following items: glue, Xacto knife, pink ink, and a clock mechanism kit. There are wooden numbers available in a craft store. The clock mechanism kit can be purchased at a craft store for $5.You can buy wooden numbers in different styles and sizes.
Step 2: Make sure the numbers are covered.
Attach the wooden numbers to the paper with glue. The Xacto knife can be used to cut around numbers.Allow the glue to dry while you set the numbers aside. You can finish the numbers by dipping the edges in ink.Paint the numbers on a protective coat of glaze. If you want a more sophisticated look, spray the numbers with metallic silver spray paint.
Step 3: There is a clock on top of it.
Pick a spot where you have a lot of room to mount the clock because it will be two feet wide.To determine the center of the spot, use a ruler. You will hang the clock mechanism here.Attach the clock mechanism to the wall. When placed over a mantelpiece or low cabinet, this clock looks great.
Step 4: The location of the numbers will be determined.
Measure up one foot on top of the clock with a ruler.Use a pencil to mark this spot. The number 12 will be hung here.Use a pencil to mark the right side of your clock. You will hang the number 3 here.Measure one foot below your clock and mark it with a pencil. You will hang the number 6 here.Use a pencil to mark the left side of your clock. This is where you will hang the number 9.
Step 5: Set the clock by hanging the numbers.
The glue can be used to hang the pencil spots. To mark off where the rest of the numbers will hang, you can use a ruler and pencil. To hang the numbers, use the glue.If you need to adjust the placement of a number, you can easily remove it from the wall and remount it somewhere else. The clock mechanism requires batteries and can be set to the correct time.
Step 6: Take the supplies.
You will need 1 cork trivet, 1 hanging clock kit, 3 contrasting paint colors, a power drill, painter's tape, paint brushes, scissors, and a water cup to make this clock. You can use a paper plate if you don't have a palette.Pick paint colors that are very bright.
Step 7: The clock hands have to be prepared.
The center of the cork trivet can be determined using a ruler. To drill a hole through the marking, use a power drill. The clock part should fit through the large hole. The clock mechanism kit can be purchased online or in stores for around $5.The cork board needs to be cleaned and wiped down. The clock hands can be sprayed with white spray paint.Let them dry.
Step 8: The trivets need to be painted.
The painter's tape can be used to create geometric designs. You can use the tape to create intersecting triangles. While leaving other portions blank, fill in portions of the trivet with paint. To prevent color bleeding, smooth out the tape.If you only have two different shades of paint, you can mix them together to create a third shade.Allow the trivets to dry after two or three coats.
Step 9: The clocks need to be assembled.
Remove the tape from the trivet once the paint has dried.Allow the touch ups to dry.The clock making kit can be used to finish the clock. Before hanging the clock on the wall, make sure it's set.Make three times the clocks.Give the extras away as gifts or hang them in clusters on the wall.
Step 10: The supplies should be gathered.
To make a photo clock, you will need the following materials: 2 sheets of 18”x 24” poster paper, tape, a pencil, 12 pictures frames, and a clock mechanism kit.It is possible to mix and match different colors and styles of picture frames. The larger clock mechanism kit costs around $10It can be purchased online or in a craft store.
Step 11: Put the clock down.
Attach the two sheets of paper to each other using scotch tape.Place the clock mechanism kit in the center of the sheets and arrange the picture frames around it.Try to position some of the frames vertically or horizontally. You should play around with the layout until you find a design that works for you.To trace the frames onto the sheets of paper, use a pencil.
Step 12: Take the photos.
You can place the photos inside the frames.Pick photos for this project.Try to come up with a theme for your clock and choose twelve pictures that fit that theme.Take a photo of twelve places you have been on vacation.During key points in your relationship, choose twelve different photos of you and your significant other.
Step 13: The clock mechanism should be covered.
Use a pencil, ruler, and some scissors to cut the paper into a square or rectangular shape that is large enough to cover the clock mechanism. If the clock mechanism is small, cut the paper to be the same size as the picture frames. To cut a hole in the middle of the paper, use scissors or an Xacto knife. The metal portion of the clock mechanism will go here.Put the clock mechanism together after following the instructions. You can use the cover you made in place of the clock face.
Step 14: Hang the clock.
There is a blank wall where you want to hang the clock. You can hang the tracing you made in step one on the wall with scotch tape. You can use the frame tracings as a guide and hammer in the nails for each frame.Pull the paper off the wall after hammering. The paper should slide out easily if the nails stay in place.Hang up the clock piece.Set the clock to the correct time by putting a AA battery in it.
