A hair wrap, not to be confused with "wrapping your head with a scarf", is a fun way to add a temporary look to your natural hair.A hair wrap is not a hair extension, it's a way to wrap braided strands of your own hair.A hair wrap adds a colorful design to your hair without making it permanent.Even though the designs created can look very detailed and complicated, wrapping your hair with colorful thread is a simple activity that almost all ages can do.Everyone in the family can enjoy having a child have their hair wrapped by an older girl.Hair wraps are an ideal activity to incorporate into a girls night, a fun birthday party craft, and are a definite for a bohemian music festival.Take your hair to the next level with a colorful, creative hair wrap.
Step 1: The length of the thread is measured.
Attach the thread or floss to your body.Measure the thread against the strand of hair and make it 3 times longer than the hair.Take the number of colors you want to add to the first wrap and put them together.
Step 2: You can separate the hair sections you want to wrap.
A section of hair is no thicker than a pencil. Most people wrap their hair around their neck to create a pop of color.Pick a section at the top of your head if you want to go all out.If you want to keep your hair out of the way, separate the hair section and wrap a ponytail holder around it.
Step 3: Put the hair in a bag.
The section should be as clean and tight as possible. There is a small section of hair. The hair should be braided as far down as possible.Attach with a small elastic. The strand of hair can be straightened, but you don't have that option. To smooth out the small pieces of hair that might be sticking out, lightly wet your fingers and slick down the entire braided strand. It is important to secure a tissue with pins at the root of the braid to prevent hair from getting into the wrap.
Step 4: Place the colorful threads in half.
With a basic double knot, tie the floss onto the base of the braid as close to the hair as possible. The knot needs to be tight and secure. With another double knot, secure the thread again. The excess thread should be tucked inside the wrap as you work your way down.
Step 5: Pick a thread color.
Pick one string color to wrap around the braid. To hold the rest of the colored strands smooth with the braid, you need to separate one strand of thread.
Step 6: Be patient and be creative when creating your hair wrap.
You can try new things with your own braids once you try the basic designs. Most people wrap just one braid, but don't be afraid to wrap several braid strands or even do your whole head. For a few days or a month, you can keep your hair wrap on.When the wrap starts to smell or feel funny, most people remove it.Don't leave it on for more than a month. There is an old wrap can.If you want to keep rocking the wrap look, remove the old one and start a new one on a different piece of hair.Remove the hair wrap by cutting the knot and unraveling the thread.Don't cut your own hair.
Step 7: Wrap the braid using a simple wrap.
When you are ready to switch colors, pull the first piece of colored thread clockwise around the braid.
Step 8: You can change the colors of the thread.
Wrap the braid with the first color thread. If you want to switch to a new thread color, tie a knot around the wrap and lay it down with the other strands. The wrap will be secured at the color change. You don't have to worry about it becoming loose if the first color is tight. You can change the length to create an alternating pattern of colors.
Step 9: The switch needs to be repeated.
Wrap until you use all the colors in the bundle. To get alternating colors, you can use two colors of thread and wrap them at the same time. You can use three colors of thread to create an alternating color scheme.
Step 10: If you want to knot each color, alternate it.
Instead of tying it off with a final knot, you will loop the thread through itself and secure the Wrap one color using your knot choice down approximately one inch.Take the additional strings from the top of the 1 inch section and make a criss-cross over it.Attach the strings at the bottom with a double knot. This is a great place to add a bead or charm. The charm or bead should be tied into the thread bundle with clear fishing line.
Step 11: The wrap needs to be tied at the end.
Pull the current thread through the loop of the final wrap to make a knot.Excess thread should be trimmed from the bottom.
Step 12: Wrap with a forward knot.
Wrap the thread around the hair, then take the string on the left and cross it over onto the right to make a 4.Pull the end through the loop created by Tucking under and through 4.The knot needs to be pulled tight.A half forward knot is created. To create a full forward knot, repeat. You can create a series of knots all the way down the hair wrap. The method will make the wrap very secure.
Step 13: Start by alternating colors.
If you want to change the thread color, lay it flat with the braid and pick a new color.Begin tying more forward knots with one color and then switch to another. You can repeat this all the way down the braid until you reach the end.If you run out of string, tie another piece onto the end of the thread with a secure knot.Excess thread can be clipped off.
Step 14: The wrap should be tied at the end when the hair is removed.
Pull the current thread through the loop of the final wrap to make a knot.To make the knot more secure, double it with the other threads.Excess thread should be trimmed from the bottom.
Step 15: Start the Chinese Staircase hair wrap.
Take thread behind, hold it into a 4 with your hand and pull it through like a knot.Pull it all the way up to the top of your head.
Step 16: Don't repeat.
The wrap will be about an inch down the braid after about 10 times of doing the same 4 tie knot.
Step 17: The knots are tied around the braid.
The pattern will flow when you pull it in a circle for each new knot.Don't pull it too tight, just a light tug up so that it's easy to get out of your hair when you're done.
Step 18: Tie the wrap at the end after you remove hair elastic.
Pull the current thread through the loop of the final wrap to make a knot.To make the knot more secure, double it with the other threads.Excess thread should be trimmed from the bottom.
