"Redlining" is a type of editing in which red ink is used to indicate removal or addition of text in Microsoft Word.You can use Microsoft Word's built-in "Track Changes" feature to redline a document, or you can manually change the color of it.Track Changes is ideal for large-scale editing and feedback, while manual redlining is better suited to smaller documents and papers that are sent between different versions of Word.
Step 1: You can open the document.
Step 2: The "Review" tab is at the top of the screen.
Tools to help with spell checking and editing can be found in this tab.
Step 3: Track changes can be enabled with the "Track Changes" button.
The margins have a red line next to them.The added text is displayed in red."Track Changes" can be turned on from any tab by pressing Control + Shift + E.
Step 4: The track changes button can be found next to the drop-down menu.
You can choose how advanced your change tracking is.
Step 5: You can choose "All Markup".
The option displays text in red.The comments to the right-hand edit bar detail which action was performed.Your other options are "Simple Markup", which displays red lines next to edited lines of text but doesn't show specifically what changed, "No Markup," which does not display changes at all, and "Original" which draws a line through deleted text.You can click the red lines next to the edited lines of text to see which changes were made.
Step 6: Click the drop-down menu if you want to view smilng.
You can choose which parts of "Track Changes" are displayed.If you want to check it out, click each option.Any editor comments are shown in the margins.Checking "Ink" shows drawings.Checking "Insertions and Deletions" shows added and removed text.Checking "Formatting" shows changes to the format.
Step 7: Click on "New Comment" in the "Comments" section to highlight some text.
You can add feedback to highlighted text.The right-hand edits bar contains your feedback.
Step 8: The document should be edited as you please.
Microsoft Word will place a vertical red line next to the text in which the edits were made.
Step 9: You can save your changes if you click "Accept".
Your document has been redlined.The red ink and other indicators are removed when you click "Accept".
Step 10: You can open the document.
If you're editing a document in an outdated version of Word or want more control over which changes are displayed, manual redlining is a better option.All versions of Word are compatible with manual redlining.
Step 11: If it isn't already open, click the " Home" tab.
There are tools in this tab such as text bolding.The Home tab is at the top of the screen.
Step 12: The "Strikethrough" button is found in the toolbar.
There is a button next to it.Strikethrough is used to cross out text.
Step 13: You can find the "Font Color" button in the program.
It is marked as a capital "A" with a colored bar underneath.You can use this tool to write new text.You can change the "Font Color" selection by clicking on the bar underneath "A", then selecting a new color from the drop-down menu.
Step 14: To highlight a section of text, click and drag the mouse over it.
Clicking the "Font Color" button will change the highlighted text to whichever color the bar on the button is.
Step 15: A line can be put through the highlighted text by clicking the "Strikethrough" button.
The highlighted content should be deleted.
Step 16: There is a space between your strikethrough and the next word.
Any text that you type will have a line through it.
Step 17: The space has a strikethrough text.
If you're retyping the strikethrough text, you should use a different color than the default text.
Step 18: The "Font Color" button is displayed.
If your new text is not a different color than the document's default text, you should change it to something that is visible.This is the "editing" color.
Step 19: After the strikethrough text, add your replacement text.
If you combine the former text with your new red-ink text, you will see which text was deleted.
Step 20: Make sure the edits are in your color.
It's important to show which text you've added to the document.If you add a semicolon to a run-on sentence, use your editing color.
Step 21: Continue until you have edited your document.
Step 22: To save your document, press Control + S.
Your document has been redlined.Click "File" in the upper left-hand corner of the screen to save it.
