Everything is better with glitter, from jars to phone cases.glitter can be used to create a paintingYour painting can be a simple silhouette, or you can try something more detailed like a glittered rendition of your favorite cartoon character. You can move on to more complex projects once you know how to do a basic glitter painting.
Step 1: You can find a simple image online.
Silhouettes and cartoon-style images with bold outlines work well.Pictures with shading and intricate designs are not recommended for this type of project. You can draw your own picture.Click here to draw the image directly on the canvas.
Step 2: The image should be reversed.
The image can be downloaded into an image editing program. The rotate option can be used to flip the image. This will make sure that the image comes out the way you want it to.The majority of computers have a free image editing program.Paint is used on Windows computers.
Step 3: If you need to print the image out, change the size of it.
The image should fit on your printer paper. You can use the preview option to see how it will look.If the image is being truncated in the preview, you may have to move it around. You may have to shrink it.It is possible to print the image out in black-and-white if you can see the outlines clearly.
Step 4: The image is on the paper.
First, tape your image down onto the table, then tape a sheet of paper over it.Use a pencil to trace over the image. The lines should be thick and dark. You can use tracing paper.A low-tack tape can be used, such as masking tape or painter's tape.It will be easier to remove.
Step 5: The image can be traced onto your canvas by flipping the paper over.
Remove the table from the picture.Place the paper over the canvas and trace it down.Pull the paper away from the traced image if you want to see it again.Thin or thick canvas can be used for painting. If you don't want to use canvas, use a thick sheet of paper.
Step 6: A waterproof marker is needed to trace over your outlines.
Refer to your original image for the best color to use.Black might be the best color for a cartoon image.Match the marker to the color of the original image. If you add paint and glue to the marker, it will bleed.Sharpies and Microns are permanent markers.
Step 7: The image should be filled in with paint.
To find out what colors to use, refer to the original image.Use one color at a time and rinse the brushes between each color.Use small, flat brushes for small areas.glitter will cover the paint if it has visible brushstrokes.Try not to paint over the black outlines.Don't worry, you can touch them later. The sides of your canvas should be painted as well. You will get a nicer finish.
Step 8: The paint should be left to dry.
The paint takes less than an hour to dry.You can speed up the process with a hairdryer or leave the painting out under the sun if the paint isn't drying fast enough.
Step 9: Any outlines that were covered with paint should be touched up.
You might have accidentally painted over black outlines if you added them to your image. If you want to keep them in the final image, use the same black marker you used before. If you matched the paint color to the outlines, skip this step.
Step 10: It is a good idea to set up an easy to clean work surface.
If you want to find a place that is easy to clean, look for one with a hard floor.A crease can be created by folding a sheet of paper in half.It should be under your canvas. The glitter can be funneled back into its jar when you are done. The canvas doesn't have to be the same size as the paper.A sheet of printer paper or binder paper is large enough to catch the glitter.
Step 11: The shape closest to the top of the canvas should be brushed with white glue.
Glue can be put into a container. After dipping a paintbrush into the glue, brush a thick coat onto your first color. You can use a small paintbrush and a large paintbrush. You don't want to see the paint through the glue layer. If you are painting a silhouette, use small patches.White tacky glue can be used.If the glue is too thick, thin it down with a few drops of water.
Step 12: Before the glue dries, shake a matching glitter color.
You can find a glitter color that matches your paint by shaking it onto the glue. The glitter layer needs to be thick so that it extends past the edges of the glue. You shouldn't be able to see the paint or glue.
Step 13: Wait 1 minute, then remove the glitter.
The glitter should sit on the canvas for a while.Pick up the canvas and shake it to spread the glitter. The glitter can be removed from the folded paper by standing the canvas up vertically. If you have glitter outside the area, wipe it off with a dry paintbrush. The glue and glitter will be similar to toothpaste. The end of your paintbrush can be used to push it into place.
Step 14: The glitter can be funneled back into its jar using creased paper.
The canvas should be left aside.Attach the bottom of the V to the bottle so that the glitter slides inside.Place the paper under the canvas once you have the glitter back in the bottle. You can let the glue dry before moving on to the next color. The next color should not stick to the previous one if you used enough glitter.
Step 15: You should work one color at a time.
Make sure that the glitter doesn't mix into the areas that have already been painted. The first thing to do is to start with the smallest shapes. You can either leave the background blank or glitter it.Continue working in small patches if you are working on an image that is all one color. It's a good idea to funnel each color back into its jar after you're done using it.Adding glitter to the sides of the canvas will make it look professional.
Step 16: If you want, fill your outlines with black glitter.
Use a small, pointed brush to apply glue to your outlines. The same technique is used to Shake the glitter off.If you don't want to use black outlines, skip this step.
Step 17: Make any touch-ups after your canvas is dry.
The length of time your canvas takes to dry depends on the type of glue you used.Wait at least 1 hour. The image will become more translucent once the canvas is dry.Any bare patches will also show up.If you see any, fill them in with a small paintbrush and glue, then sprinkle glitter on top.The glitter needs to be removed.
