Wynonna Judd says she met her brother for the first time and that she sent frightening text to her dad.
A text message was sent to her father that said "no parent ever wants", as she was in the midst of an experience in which she nearly lost her leg.
Judd described her father's effort to be by her side when she broke her leg while studying the bonobo population.
Michael Ciminella traveled to Sunninghill Hospital in South Africa to be with her after he was alerted to her plight.
"My beloved Dad, who had gotten the text no parent ever wants: 'emergency, can't answer questions, please come now,' had been able to come to South Africa because he is vaccine free," she wrote. He has been my rock, companion, resource, helped me listen to so many doctors, critical support system, and kind, loving presence as I have wept and cried.
Judd said that her father accompanied her on four flights that took 22 hours to return to the US.
She wrote that she had to wait for the swelling to go down in an American hospital.I was qualified to have the 8-hour surgery to repair the bones, decompress the hemorrhaging nerve and pick the shards of bones out of the nerve.I'm recovering from surgery.
She shared a video of the nurses who cared for her at the hospital in Johannesburg as well as a photo of her doctor and images and video from her hospital bed.The final photo was of her father rubbing her repaired leg.
She said she was thankful to all of the experts, including her Pop, who was rubbing her foot to remind her it was connected to her body.I am up and around.Thank you for your kind words. We should always remember those without insurance. We should remember those who have choices. We should remember those who are lonely and afraid.
In her memoir, "All That Is Bitter and Sweet," Judd described a turbulent family life, but she maintained a strong relationship with her father.
