The pickups are alnico, not ceramic, and sound really good – you can get a variety of tones by using the tone control and the push-pull coil splitters on both pups. Effectively this gives you 2 guitars. IMO, you can not do better (Gibson's 335 is over $2500 more money, and does not have coil splitting.)
