I am sharing with you a discovery that I made recently.Do you know anything about VINIQ?Viniq is a blend of Premium Vodka, Moscato, Natural Fruit Flavors, and a one-of-a-kind shimmer, according to their website.It is one of a kind.It has to be the most fascinating liqueur on the planet right now.It was because of that colour and shimmer.You can check it out here.What do I mean?

Every time I go to our local liquor store, I am drawn to this liqueur because I found it in the vodka section.It comes in a tall bottle with a purple liquid inside that is also yellow and red.It will look plain at first, but don't be fooled.Pick it up and give it a shake.You will be amazed by the shimmery swirls.Mr K has to push me away from that bottle every time we go there.

I wanted to figure out how to make shimmery cocktails myself because I had no idea how Viniq did it.I did.

Luster Petal Dust is all you need.This can be found in your local cake store or online.I found mine in a local cake equipment and decorating supplies store, but I also bought some previously from Amazon.

The best thing about this is that you can make shimmery cocktails in any colour you want.Viniq is the world's first shimmery liqueur.For the first time, you can make your own Viniq.

The homemade viniq can be changed by changing the color of the petals.There are some suggestions for colors.

I wouldn't recommend using this alone.Combining it with blue or green would give it a darker colour with a silver sheen.Very cool!

The dust leaves only shimmery swirls and no color.It is perfect if you want shimmery swirls and don't want to add any color.

When you mix two bright colors, you will get beautiful shimmery swirls at first, but eventually the two colors will mix to give you something more dull.When I mix yellow and purple together for a cocktail, I get a beautiful blend of the two.It turns into a dull dark yellow after a little while.Not good.You still get the shimmer.There is no need to worry about a colour change with just one colour.Once you shake it, it will stay shimmery and beautiful.).

You don't need anything else, just your favourite flavoured vodka, syrup and dust.You can use any flavour you want in this recipe.If you combine a few, you can get a liqueur that is more intense.

To make classic Viniq, mix a fruity, sweet wine with vodka and luster petals.Extra simple syrup can be added to make it sweeter.

You can make alcohol or liqueur with butterfly pea flowers.If you want to make a liqueur, add some simple syrup and butterfly pea flowers.

I want to see if I can duplicate the effect of alcohol with a few other liquids.It was used with water, apple juice, oil and golden syrup.The main reason for the shimmering effect seems to be the density of the solution.I wanted to test my hypothesis that liquids with high viscosity and less density than water work well, because those two properties enable the kind of light refraction you need, to see that beautiful shimmery effect.I can see how water breaks up the shimmers when I add it to these two solutions.Golden syrup gave me an intermediate effect.All the liquids I tested produced some shimmery effect, but alcohol produced the most desirable shimmers.

I had a lot of fun with this.Think of all the applications?Any clear drink can be turned into a magic Potion.I call this cocktail The Witch's Heart.A Halloween favorite on the website.

This is cool.I'm planning on having a signature drink for my wedding and I want to know how much luster dust to use.

It depends on how large the drink is, and how clear the cocktail is.It doesn't take a lot.If you need more, I would only use 1/6th of a cup.Thank you for your wedding!

A simple syrup is equal parts sugar and water cooked and brought to a boil.I hope that helps.

I make jolly rancher for Christmas.There is always one of coarse.She only drinks rum and won't give me a flavor.Is it possible to put in luster dust?It would be pretty rum.How long will the luster last?

I recommend using a pearl luster dust.The shimmer takes on the color of the liqueur / liquor that you add it too, because the dust has more of a transparent color.Even if they drink the rum straight, it adds shimmer without changing the color.The luster should last a long time.I kept my liqueurs for up to a year, and they still had the shimmer when we finished them.I hope that helps.

Will gold luster dust work on the liquer?Do you mean a clear coloured spirit?

The gold color will mix with the liqueur.If the liqueur is clear or yellow, it will shimmer in the light.The liqueur will mix with gold and produce an orange shimmer if it is red or pink.The liqueur will end up being a greenish shimmer if it is blue.I don't know what color it will produce, but if it's yellow like elderflower cordial, then it should produce a yellow golden shimmer.Hope that helps!

Will Luster Petal Dust and alcohol work in a fountain?The shimmers will not be on the bottom.What do you think?

I haven't tried drinks in a punch fountain before so I'm not sure.The shimmery swirls can work in an alcoholic drink, but only if the drink is clear and not cloudy.

I have been making and selling luster dusts for 16 years.The cake decorating industry uses Luster Dust and Petal dust.Luster Petal Dust is not a thing.You should only purchase pearl dust or luster.The effects you are seeking will not be given by the flat finish of petals.

Hi,JD!I trust sugar flair products.I haven't used their petals before, but I would go with it.It's a little pricey to buy luster dust online.I bought mine in a baking suplies store, so they were not as expensive as buying online.I will attempt to locate an online retailer that sells the brand I currently own.

I am not sure if you still want to buy your luster dust online, but you can buy it from craft stores like Michaels or Hobby lobby, it is much cheaper and you get a 40% off coupon.Hope that helps.You can buy them on sale.

They may say they are for decorating cakes, but they may not be.Some are meant for decoration, but not for ingestion.Be careful!!

Hi, Mazzy!Thank you for that!I mentioned in the post that it is important to find food grade dust.Since we won't be consuming the whole bottle in one go, you only need to use a small amount for 1 1/2 cups of liqueur, which will be used in other drinks before being enjoyed.For these reasons, you will only be consuming a small amount of the luster dust, just as you would if you enjoyed eating a decorated gum paste on a cake.I hope that helps.

Since the effect of the liquid changes, I assume that the way I make my drinks- vodka, club soda, and lime or lemon juice or some other lo-cal flavor, wouldn't work worth a damn.Drat.I wanted to have shimmery drinks.I assume you put some dry ice in the drinks?

Laurie!It won't have the same effect, but it will still be very glittery in the sun.It will still have shimmery swirls when you stir the drink, but it will settle to the bottom much quicker.I added dry ice to help create the swirls while I was free to take photos.It is not an important ingredient in any way.Thank you so much!I am happy that you will be following me.Hope you enjoy the recipes that will come in the future!3

Have you ever tried a blue pearl or natural pearl from the Chef Alan collection?I want to know how it behaves with colored liquors.

I'm Eliza!Chef Alan has a collection of pearl dust.It looks like what I am using right now.I love using the white pearl dust from Sunflower sugarcraft.I only use a similar color of luster dust for a colored liqueur and not the white one.Combining different luster dust colors with colored liqueurs should be ok, but just like mixing paint colors, the result is a mixed color liqueur.I hope that helps.

Have you tried mixing different drinks?I want to mix some pink and yellow pearl dust, but I'm not sure how it will turn out.

Hi Nicholas!If you add yellow pearl dust to pink vodka, it will result in an orange-ish colored vodka and if you mix too many colors together, they will end up a murky brown color.I hope that helps.

Hi Joris!I apologize for the late reply, but you have to look for food grade.It is safe for decorative purposes, but not food grade.It's ok if you accidentally eat it, but you don't want to... I hope that helps!

I apologize for the late reply.I have been working on creating this effect with non-alcoholic drinks, but it is more difficult with sodas.This swirling shimmery effect is created by the high viscosity of the liquid and the luster dust that suspends it.I am trying different agents with mixed results.It would be a really dark color with cold brew coffee.It is more challenging because of the carbonation in sodas.I will let you know when I come up with a solution.

I tested it using cold pressed juices I made at home.I was told by a pastry shop owner that disco dust might work better because it is more for alcoholic beverages.

I poured a small amount of the luster dust into a bottle.The results?It wasn't what I expected.You can see silver specks in the bottle when you shake it.It looks decent but not great.It glitters a little though.

Hello, jason!I am happy that you enjoy my posts.Disco dust is too heavy for liquid and will sink faster, so I wouldn't recommend it.It doesn't have the same effect as I tried.The luster dust is light and fine.The thickness of a liquid is what makes this process work.I explain the science behind it in a post at Theflavorbender.com.It's important to have a translucent liquid.The shine will be less if the liquid is cloudy.I have tested it out on clear liquids, and the one thing that helped was xanthan gum.The liquid made it possible to suspend the luster dust.It shimmers, but not as much as with alcohol.I will let you know when the post is on the blog.I hope that helps.

Did you mean that Xanthan gum is one of the "ingredients" or "substance" contained in lustre dust?

No problem!There is a binding agent in xy gum.It needs to be purchased separately.Depending on where you live, you can usually find it in health stores or online.I will be doing the process step by step within a few weeks.

Hello Melanie!Simple syrup is Sugar and water mixed in a 2:1 ratio and heated until the sugar has dissolved and is slightly syruppy, you don't have to buy it at all, and it's really simple to make at home!I just added a post to make shimmery liqueur with a video.You can check it out as well Melanie!I would like to thank you for visiting my website.

I would suggest adding the hawaiian ice flavor syrups bit by bit to the vodka, to make sure you add enough to be sweet, but not too much.Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for the question, Mary!I tried mixing luster dust with a few other liquids to see if it worked, and found that it works best in an alcoholic solution.You can get a shimmer when you mix it with water, but it is not as pretty as in alcohol.It is similar to water, but you need to be aware that the apple juice is yellow/orange.I added another paragraph to explain what I think is going on and what works best.
