What is the Best Salt for my Water Softener?
Our house has a Model 4040s Kinetico Reverse Osmosis Water Softener and Drinking Water system. The system has a large cleaning brine tank.
We are wondering if there is something special about the type of salt that needs to be used in the Brine Tank.
We know they can deliver it at a cost of $20/bag and 5 bag minimum, but that seems excessive as opposed to buying it from a Home Depot, Lowes or the like.
This is how Kinetico is cranky. They rule their dealers with an iron fist.I have a good one.Hope you do as well.Good stuff that performs and lasts is what they make.It has for me for almost two decades now.
The dealer has allowed me to use store-bought Morton salt-briquets for more than 18 years.I switched one of them to a four-tank unit. The same stuff is used by the installer.
Don't worry. You're fine. The price per bag is crazy. The new unit gave me five bags free.It will probably take two years to stop when used.
Thanks for the feedback, Asolo.I'm pretty sure you're referring to Morton's "System Saver Pellets", which is available in 40 b. bags for $3.98 US each.
I'm not sure about the statement. They don't make calls or give instructions on how to sell. They insist on proper settings and ethical behavior when it comes to pricing.
Immediately, I yield to andy c.The bus has him in it.I'm not.I have learned to respect his advice after reading his posts for years.
"So it appears to me," I should have said.Or something like that.Every inquiry of any kind to Kinetico has always been referred to my local dealer. They have always responded directly to me after receiving notice of my inquiry.Someone is paying attention.I like that.
Some dealerships can be run with an iron fist as they are very independent and privately owned.Prices, commissions, installations and follow up service can vary from dealership to dealership.
I was told by the dealer to use rock salt only, but it's not available in my area, so I'm wondering what to do.Will this hurt my system?
It will be fine.pellet salt is slightly higher in purity and will be better for you in the long run.The only issue you are likely to see is the build up in your brine tank, which can be mitigated by cleaning it out every couple of years.
Wait until the salt is low, scoop the rest out or wet-vac out the water, then wipe the tank out. You're good to go if you add 2 gallons of water and refill with fresh salt.
