What is the 8 Passengers abuse controversy?The family channel has several videos that alert viewers.Ruby Franke has gotten into a bit of hot water with some online after making her son sleep on a beanbag chair for seven months.
Ruby appears to run the account and most of the videos do not feature Kevin Franke.
The main video that caught the attention of viewers was removed from the 8 Passengers channel once it started getting a lot of negative attention in the comments section but was re-uploaded by a separate user and can be seen here.The comments section on the videos have been disabled.
In the now- deleted video, Ruby explains that her oldest son, Chad, had not been sleeping in his bedroom for seven months after he played a prank on his younger brother.
"In our house, when we take something away, they have shown that they are not responsible enough to manage it," Ruby explains.As soon as they start acting good, we don't give it back.It needs to be consistent for at least six months.It is consistently shown in every aspect of their life.
Ruby asked if he had ever gotten a privilege back before six months had passed.He said no.
Chad said that his bedroom was taken away for seven months.
Chad says in the video that he has been sleeping on a bean bag chair since October.
He told Russell that the family was not going to Disneyland and that he pointed a gun at his younger brother.
Chad showed that he wasn't able to share a bedroom with Russell.Chad was not given access to a bedroom when the Franke family moved.
Ruby locked up all of the electronics and the TV remotes in their home for an entire summer, according to the video.Ruby said that she was not going to give Chad the cell phone back because he hadn't had access to it in more than a year.Ruby said that she would probably never get her phone back after it was taken away for more than six months.
Kevin and Ruby filmed a video to explain why Chad wasn't on their summer vlogs.He was put in the Anasazi Foundation Wilderness Therapy Program for 10 weeks because of his behavioral issues.The program aims to provide intervention services for troubled teens.
Kevin said that Chad needs to develop some basic maturity skills as an adult.
In addition to the comments made about taking away privileges for several months at a time, this particular video got many viewers concerned about the 8 Passengers family.
On May 31, a Change.org petition was created to get Child Protective Services to investigate the family.
Ruby and Kevin have not commented on the controversy.Both have limited or turned off the comments section on their social media pages.
