How do I get to Kauapea beach?
To find it, take the Kuhio Highway past Kilauea and turn right on Kalihiwai Road. Follow the road for about 50 yards and then turn right into an unmarked, unpaved road. Proceed to the end and park. Nearby is the foot path leading to the west end of the beach.
Where can you swim in Point Reyes?
Limantour and Drakes Beach provide the easiest and safest swimming access outside of winter storm conditions. The ocean temperatures are about 50-60 degrees year round. There are no lifeguards at Point Reyes.

Why is it called Point Reyes?
In 1603, explorer Sebastian Vizcaino first sighted the rocky headlands along the Miwok-inhabited coast. He named the impressive cliffs “la Punta de los Reyes” (Point of the Kings) after the three wise men of the Catholic faith.
Is Point Reyes stairs open?
The visitor center and the lighthouse are only open Friday through Monday year-round. The stairs are closed during high winds so check the weather forecast before committing to this trip.
