The basic cross-lacing is one of the ways Vans skate shoes can be lacing up.Some basic tips for lacing up your Vans and taking care of them can be learned from both methods.
Step 1: You can count the number of pairs on your shoe.
Vans with more than one eyelets can be cross-linked.The basic principle won't change if your shoes have an odd number.
Step 2: The shoelace should be inserted through one of the two eyelets.
The laces should form a bar across the bottom of the shoelace. The left and right lace should be on the same side.
Step 3: Feed the right lace underneath the shoe so that it pops out of the second eyelet.
This technique has a unique look due to the hiding of the inner lacing. It doesn't matter if you go by your right or the shoe's right. The end result will be the same if you stay consistent.
Step 4: The lace should be underneath the shoe.
It should pop up on the left side. The left side of the bar should be empty.
Step 5: Put the right lace over to the left side and down through the second eyelet.
The laces should be on the left side.
Step 6: You can cross the lace from the third to the right side.
It should be inserted through the third eyelet. Each lace should be on a different side of the shoe and you should have three bars in your lacing.
Step 7: Continue this pattern.
Feed the left lace underneath the shoe so that it pops up out of the fifth eyelet.Feed the right lace underneath the shoe so that it pops up out of the sixth eyelet.New bars can be formed by crossing each lace over to the other side.Continue to reverse sides after every two bars if you have more than six pairs of shoes.
Step 8: The shoelace should be inserted through the bottom of the eyelets.
The laces should be pushed through the eyelets closest to the toe of the sneaker. The laces should form a bar across the bottom of the shoelace.Pull the laces up over the bar and downward toward the toe.
Step 9: To the left side, cross the right lace.
Go up the shoe with it through the second eyelet. The right lace should be crossing the tongue of the shoe with the left lace emerging from between the bar and the cross-lace.Pull the crossed lace away from the shoe to get it out of the way.The easiest way to do this is with the shoes off.It doesn't matter if you go by your right or the shoe's right. The end result will be the same if you stay consistent.
Step 10: To the right side, cross the left lace.
Just as you did on the other side, put it down on that side. You should have a bar and two cross-laces.Pull the lace away from the shoe to get it out of the way.
Step 11: Continue lacing.
Start by crossing the lace on the right-hand side over to the left side and downward through the eyelet, making sure that the other lace now emerges from between two crossings.Cross the left lace over to the right to get out of the way.Continue until the shoe is completely lacing up.Lacing the shoes this way ensures that cross-laces are always in one direction. If you want your laces to mirror each other, reverse the process when you lace your other shoe.
Step 12: You should keep your shoelaces from twisting.
The straight, flat-laced look is classic Vans, so don't let your laces get sloppy or it will look wrong. If you want your vans to look new, keep the laces straight. When you pull your laces through the eyelets, flatten them out and keep them from twisting up.Go slowly. If they're actually pretty straight, don't over-tighten the laces, which can cause them to bunch up.
Step 13: Put your shoes back on and face you.
It's easier to lace up your sneakers when they're on the ground, with the toe facing you, instead of the other way around.Turn them around if you want them to look right.
Step 14: Use thick laces.
Vans white laces are usually the best laces, but any variety of white sneaker lace would be fine.In general, skate laces are puffy and white, whereas some basketball laces can be thin and cylindrical.New white laces are the most commonly associated with Vans.
Step 15: Change your laces on a regular basis.
It always looks cool to have a fresh set of laces. It's a good idea to change your laces every couple of weeks, especially if you're skating regularly and breaking laces.
Step 16: Change the way you put on your shoes.
To get the most life out of your shoes, it's a good idea to alternate between the styles you use, so that they don't wear from repeated lacings. If you cross-lace your Vans, you can change the direction of the crosses so that the right side isn't always over the left. The shoes will wear evenly if this is not done.
