You can use hair extensions to give your hair more volume, length or both.If they are made from real hair, you can give them highlights, dye them, or even heat style them.If you don't do it right, the results will look weird. How you apply them depends on your starting hair length and texture.
Step 1: You can buy a pack of extensions that match your hair color.
If they are made from real hair, you can dye them using hair dye.You can buy them in a lighter shade. If the extensions matched your hair texture, it would be even better. If you can't find the right ones, Curl or Straighten them later.
Step 2: The groups are based on how many clips they have.
There are 7 wefts or strings of hair in most packs of extensions. Each weft has clips sewn into it.Group your wefts based on how many clips are sewn in.One group may only have a single weft, while another may have up to four. It's important to know how many clips are on each weft. The location of the weft depends on how many clips are sewn into it.
Step 3: The extensions should be brushed with a clean hairbrush.
The hair should be brushed from the ends.Don't drag a brush straight through the wefts.Use a wide-toothed comb to untangle the hair, then brush it.
Step 4: Curl the extensions.
If the extensions are made from real hair, you can use a curling iron or hair straightener on them, just like you would on your own hair.If they are made from synthetic fibers, it's a good idea to read the package to make sure they're resistant to heat.Curl your hair to match the extensions.Pull your own hair back into a ponytail and then clip the extensions in one at a time to the side of your head to style them. You can clip the extensions to make it easier to style them.
Step 5: You should wash, dry, and brush hair.
Even though these extensions are only temporary, your hair should be free of knots and tangles.Allow your hair to air dry or use a hairdryer after you wash it.When brushing your hair, make sure it is free of knots.
Step 6: Just below your ears, remove the hair.
Take the handle of the rat-tail comb out of your hair.Pull the hair up into a bun.To make sure it is even, check the horizontal part that you made in the mirror. The comb may feel uncomfortable if strands of hair are interrupted. The part should be level with your ears.It is a good idea to brush the hair below the comb to make sure it is smooth.
Step 7: Just below the part, you can put a 3-clip weft into your hair.
There are 3 clips sewn into the weft.Attach the comb-like clips to your weft.Put the weft over the horizontal part and slide the combs into your hair as close to the roots as possible.Start with the middle clip.Don't clip in extensions that are too close to your head. For a natural look, keep them 1 inch from your head.
Step 8: For mid- ear level, repeat the process.
Let the rest of the hair go.A horizontal part that is level with the middle of your ears can be created using your rat-tail comb.Just like before, put everything above the part into a bun.Just below the part, put a 4-clip weft into the roots. The sides should be done first, then the middle clips. Some packs have a short and long weft. The shorter weft is used here.
Step 9: Use a longer weft to repeat the process above your ears.
Let the rest of the hair go.You can use the rat-tail comb to level the part with the tips of your ears. The longest weft should be put into the roots just below the part. For this, use either a 5- or 4-clip weft.skip this step if you don't have either of these clips
Step 10: You should put a 3-clip weft below your crown.
Measure down from the back of your crown by undoing your bun.Just like before, you can create a horizontal part with your rat-tail comb and bun the rest of your hair.Let down your hair after you put the final 3-clip weft into the roots. If you have whorls, deep splits, or other cowlicks in your crown area, you need to check this weft to make sure it isn't visible.
Step 11: There is a 2-clip weft above each ear.
To create a horizontal part above your left ear, use the handle of your rat-tail comb. You can secure your hair with a clip instead of putting it in a bun.The weft is 1 inch from the edge. This is the second step for the right ear.
Step 12: Wherever you think you need more hair, add the remaining 1-clip wefts.
You'll need to add them above the 2-clip wefts. You may want to use more clips on the thicker side of the part if you part your hair to the side. The wefts may show if you use them on the thinner side.
Step 13: Before going to sleep, remove the extensions.
From the left side of your head, pat your hair where you put the wefts. You can open all of the combs on a weft by sliding your fingers into your hair.Pull the weft out and move onto the next.Work your way up.This step requires you to feel your way around. You may end up pulling out your hair if you go to bed while wearing clip-in extensions.
Step 14: If you have short hair, layer your extensions.
It will look more natural if you try to make your hair look longer. The difference in length will be obvious if you don't blend the extensions into your own hair. You have to trim the extensions after you put them in.It's a good idea to have a trained hairdresser do it for you.
Step 15: If you have short hair, go for a shade lighter.
You will want to match the extensions to your hair color.Go 1 to 2 shades lighter if you want an effect. You could match the extensions to the ends that are already lighter. This step can be used for longer hair as well.
Step 16: If you have thick hair, pay attention to the wefts.
The ends of your hair will look too thin if you don't get extensions that are thick. This will make it obvious that you are wearing extensions.
Step 17: Before you add extensions to your roots, you need to tease them.
This will give the wefts something to hold onto.It will give your hair more volume. Before adding the extension, tease each section. To tease your hair, pull a thin section of hair away from your head, then run a comb under it, starting from the middle and ending at the roots.
Step 18: If you have thin hair, don't be afraid to keep some wefts out.
If you bought thick hair extensions, this will be the case. The difference in volume between your hair and the extensions may be obvious if you use all of them.Too much bulk could lead to visible wefts.Buying extensions for thin hair is a good idea. While looking natural, they will give you length and volume.
Step 19: Make sure the wefts aren't seen.
The positioning of the extensions may have to be adjusted. The wefts may be visible if you don't have enough hair covering them. It's a good idea to shake your head and check for wefts that are peeking through when your hair moves.Below eyebrow level is the best place to position your extensions. You have enough hair to cover them.
Step 20: If you wish, style your extensions.
The extensions will give your hair more volume.Adding extensions to your hair is up to you.Whatever is most comfortable for you, go with it.If your extensions are synthetic, make sure the package is heat- resistant.Curl them if they are not heat- resistant.
