The plastic shells placed over the frame of the bike reduce air drag. They are a great place to add flair to your bike. One of the best ways to do this is to give your fairings an awesome paint job.The process is fairly easy if you have never painted before. All you need to do is clean, prep, and paint your motorcycles.
Step 1: The motorcycle's fairings should be set in an open space.
If you want to remove the bolts from the motorcycle body, you have to do it first. In order to prevent the fumes from the spray paint from being too concentrated, place them in an open work space. The rest of the motorcycle should be covered with a tarp in order to protect it from the elements while you are working. If you are working with brand new fairings that have not been attached yet, you can skip this step.
Step 2: If you want to remove dirt from the surface, you should use soapy water.
If you mix dish soap and hot water in a bucket, then dip a sponge into the water, you can clean the fairings. The best way to clean is with a circular scrubbing motion. Before proceeding to the next step, be sure to rinse all the soapy water off.The parts that have accumulated black engine gunk should be paid particular attention to if they have been used before. The areas may need more attention in order to be completely cleaned.
Step 3: The surface of the fairings should be sanded with 400grit sandpaper.
Sand is being applied moderate pressure to the surface. It will be easier for the primer and paint to adhere to the surface once it is smooth. At any store that sells home improvement supplies, you can buy 400-grit sandpaper.
Step 4: Allow the dust to dry before rinsing off the fairings.
Sanding the surface of the fairings will cause a lot of dust to accumulate on them, which needs to be removed before you can paint them.Make sure all of the dust is removed by wiping down the fairing with water and a microfiber cloth. It will take 1 hour to completely dry the fairings.
Step 5: Allow the primer to dry before applying a coat.
The primer should be sprayed to cover the surface in a smooth layer. In order to avoid leaving patches, spray it in even strokes.Give the primer 3-6 hours to dry. It's important to use plastic primer for your fairings.Aerosol primer can be purchased at any paint supply store.
Step 6: It's a good idea to spray a thin layer of your base color.
Don't leave any spots where the primer is still visible if you cover the entire surface with the initial coat. The coat will take about 6 hours to dry. When applying spray paint, wear a breathing mask and safety goggles.
Step 7: After the base coat has dried, we sand the fairings.
Squirt some water onto the surface of the fairings in order to make them wet, then use 1000-grit sandpaper to sand them smooth. To make sure the fairings are completely dry before you add more paint, go over them with a microfiber cloth.
Step 8: Wait 3 hours for it to dry after applying another coat of base color.
The spray paint should be applied uniformly across the surface of the fairings. If you want the paint to dry, you need to give it at least 3 hours, but you can wait longer if you please.
Step 9: The process is repeated 3-4 times to put multiple coats on the fairings.
In a grip coat, each coat of paint touches the coat that has already been applied. The thicker, richer look of the paint makes it look professional.Wait at least 6 hours after applying the final coat to allow the paint to dry.To get the best look, you should apply 4-5 layers of paint.
Step 10: Once the paint is dry, apply 2 coats of lacquer to the fairings.
To spread the first coat of lacquer evenly across the surface, use a microfiber cloth.Allow it to dry for about 2 hours, then add a second layer.Adding clear lacquer will help protect the paint. You can buy clear lacquer at any hardware store.
Step 11: The bike's fairings should be left to dry for a day.
The bolts that were removed from the motorcycle's fairings should be used again. The bike is ready to ride once this is done.
