You need to remove the old one.The white plastic tool is included in your kit and you can put it on the stem to straddle the ears.Use pliers on the white plastic tool to loosen the cartridge.Pull the stem out of the valve with pliers or an adjusted wrench after removing the white plastic tool.
You can install the new one.If you want to make sure the ears of the cartridge are lined up exactly with the retaining clip notch, push it straight into the valve.
Remove the clip and replace the washer with a new one.Remove the stop tube and secure the handle.The handle cover needs to be snapped into place.If you want to reverse the sides, go to step 8.
To remove the screw from the front of the handle, you have to use a wrench.Pull the handle from the faucet.
Depending on the version of the faucet, the pivot retainer may not be removed.You can unthread and remove the pivot retainer if you have a black plastic one.There is a gray plastic pivot retainer.You can unthread and remove the gray pivot retainer if you have a white plastic pivot stop.The gray plastic pivot retainer is not replaceable if you don't see a white plastic stop inside.
There is a retaining clip in the slot.It might be necessary to use a paper clip to remove the clip.
