Four of the show's main characters are voiced by MacFarlane.MacFarlane thought it would be easier to portray the voices he had already envisioned than for someone else to do it.MacFarlane was inspired by a security guard at the Rhode Island School of Design who overheard him talking.Rex Harrison's voice was used in the 1964 musical drama film My Fair Lady.MacFarlane uses his voice to portray Brian.[3]

MacFarlane provides the voices for various other recurring and one-time only characters, including news anchor Tom Tucker, Lois' father Carter Pewterschmidt and Dr.Hartman.The voice for Glenn Quagmire is based on radio commercials from the 1940s and 1950s.He is the only cast member who is in every episode.

Lois' mother Barbara Pewterschmidt is voiced by Alex Borstein.Borstein was asked to give a voice to the pilot.She didn't see any of MacFarlane's artwork and said it was "really sight unseen".Borstein played a redheaded mother in a stage show in Los Angeles in which she based her voice on one of her cousins.The voice was slower for the original season, but when MacFarlane heard it, he said to speed it up, or every episode will last four hours.[8]

The voice of Meg Griffin is that of Mila Kunis.She won the role because of her performance on That '70s Show, which resulted in a slight rewrite of the character.After her first tryout, MacFarlane called her back and told her to speak slower and enunciate more.MacFarlane hired her because she claimed she had it under control.She described her character as the scapegoat.Meg gets picked on a lot.It's funny.It's like the middle child.She is an awkward 14-year-old when you're going through puberty.She is in a mode of humiliation.It's fun.[11]

Green plays Neil Goldman.According to Green, he did an impression of the "Buffalo Bill" character from The Silence of Lambs while auditioning.Chris' main inspiration for his voice was imagining how "Buffalo Bill" would sound if he were speaking in public.There are no comments at this time.

Cleveland Brown, John Herbert "The Pervert", Bruce, Consuela, and other characters are all voiced by Mike Henry.He began acting on the show as part of the recurring cast repertory but was promoted to the main cast member in 2005.He voices Cleveland's step-son Rallo Tubbs on Family Guy.Mike Henry, who has voiced Cleveland for twenty years, announced on June 26, 2020 that he was stepping down.On September 25, 2020, it was announced that Arif Zahir would take over as the voice of Cleveland.[17]

Family Guy has a deep bench of regularly appearing supporting voice actors.Some appear in almost every episode, while others are less frequent.Some of the actors play recurring characters, while others play background citizens of Quahog or characters in cutaway gags.
