Painting the soles of your shoes is a great way to add your own flair to them.Pick a paint that will adhere to the material of your shoe and make sure the soles are clean before you begin painting.Use a sealant to make sure the paint won't chip when you wear shoes, and apply several coats to get your color just right.
Step 1: Rub alcohol on your shoes.
Take a cotton ball and rub it with alcohol. The cotton ball can be used to clean the soles. The color will adhere to the shoe if the rubbing alcohol and clean surface are used.Once the shoe has been cleaned, it's a good idea to wait for the rubbing alcohol to dry.
Step 2: If you wish, tape off the edges of your shoe.
If you want to avoid getting paint on places other than the sole of the shoe, use painter's tape. You can apply the tape to the edges and other parts of the shoe.If necessary, cut the painter's tape into thinner strips to make it easier to apply.
Step 3: The soles of your shoes should beprimed.
The paint can stick better to the soles if they are Primed. The primer you use should adhere to the material of your shoe.If your soles are made of rubber, you would want a primer that is specifically designed for it.This can be found at a hardware store. To apply the primer evenly, use a clean paintbrush. You can use a white acrylic paint as a primer.Check the bottom or inside of the shoe for a label if you don't know what material the sole is.You can find the shoe's material online if you can't find a label.
Step 4: Wait for the primer to dry before you start.
Determine how long to wait by reading the instructions on the primer. If you're not sure if the primer is dry or not, lightly touch it with your finger. The primer doesn't leave any fingerprints if you touch it.
Step 5: The paint you choose is appropriate for the material of your soles.
As long as you add a sealant afterwards, you can use acrylic paint on soles. There are paints for rubber and leather. The most popular paint for rubber is plasti dip. When painting on leather, angelus paints are popular.
Step 6: Apply the first coat of paint with even strokes.
The paint should be applied in even strokes over the sides and bottoms of your soles. If you are not using painter's tape, make sure you do not apply paint in places where you don't want it.The shoes should be painted over a piece of newspaper.Make sure the brush you use is small enough to paint the curves of the shoe adequately and cleanly.
Step 7: Wait at least an hour.
Wait for the first coat of paint to dry.Waiting at least an hour is a good rule of thumb when it comes to waiting for the paint to dry.
Step 8: As desired, paint additional coats.
Depending on the color and shade you are going for, your soles will need anywhere from 2 to 5 coats of paint.Wait for each coat to dry before painting the next one.If you want to paint the soles of your shoes black, you only need 1 or 2 coats of paint. You'll need more than 2 coats of paint to paint the soles bright colors such as yellow, pink, or blue.
Step 9: Allow the shoes to dry.
It will give the shoes time to dry.Put the soles on a piece of newspaper so that they can dry more quickly. The cooler environment will allow the shoes to dry quicker.
Step 10: It's a good idea to use a clear sealant on the soles.
The paint on the soles should not chip as soon as you wear them, and should be protected with a sealant. If you want to protect your paint, you can use Mod Podge. You can choose between shiny or matt clear coats.
Step 11: Let the first coat dry before applying the second coat.
To apply the sealant, use a clean paintbrush.Since it's hard to see, make sure you cover the entire sole.
Step 12: If you want, paint on a second coat of sealant.
2 coats of sealant on your soles will give you more protection than just one coat.Wait at least 15-20 minutes for each coat to dry.If the coat of sealant is dry, do a touch test.Your finger is not dry yet.
Step 13: If the shoes need to be dry, remove the painter's tape.
You can take off painter's tape if your soles are completely dry.Carefully peel it off so that you don't ruin the paint job.Allow the sealant to dry overnight to make sure the soles are completely dry.
