In order to prevent extra charges on your monthly bill, you need to reduce your smart phone's data consumption.
Step 1: Limit your browsing to areas with free wi-fi.
Even if your phone's data is faster than the wi-fi, you should always prioritize wireless internet over data.Coffee shops have free wi-fi but you have to purchase a password in order to use it.
Step 2: Don't use social media on data.
Since most of these services will load videos as you scroll through your feed, using data-rich sites will quickly add up.
Step 3: You can use the mobile versions of sites.
Use the mobile site if you must browse while using data.By typing "www.m" you can access the mobile version of the site.You can put the site name into your browser.You can access the mobile version of Facebook by typing "www.m. Facebook.com" into your browser.
Step 4: You can keep music and videos on your phone.
It will save you hundreds of megabytes' worth of data if you store media such as music, photos, and videos locally instead of streaming them.
Step 5: Sending media-laden text messages is not advisable.
Sending large photos or videos will make a difference in your monthly data limit, as texting over data generally constitutes a negligible amount of data use.It's the same for uploading photos or videos to social media.
Step 6: Offline features can be used in apps.
You can download a map of an area while connected to the internet, and then use the offline map to navigate without using data.Offline use applies to some cloud storage apps.
Step 7: Open the settings on your phone.
The grid of dots at the bottom of the Home Screen is where you'll find the grey gear-shaped app in the App Drawer.
Step 8: Click on Data usage to scroll down.
It's underneath the "Wireless & Networks" heading.The first thing to do is to tap Data usage at the top of the settings menu.You may have to first tap to see the option.
Step 9: Take a look at your data usage.
The date range should be to the right of which is a number measured in either megabytes or gigabytes.The number is your data consumption over the last month.You can see the amount of data each app uses by scrolling down.
Step 10: Open the settings on your phone.
The app is usually found in the app drawer.
Step 11: Click on Data usage to scroll down.
It's under the heading "Wireless & Networks".You might have to tap on some phones.
Step 12: Allow background data to be restricted.
There is an option at the bottom of the screen.You may have to tap on some phones.
Step 13: When prompted, tap ok.
Data use will be limited to the currently open app if the background apps are prevented from using data.
Step 14: You can open your settings on your phone.
The app is in the drawer.
Step 15: Click on Data usage to scroll down.
Underneath the "Wireless & Networks" heading is this option.You might have to tap on some phones.
Step 16: Right to the "On" position is how to set a mobile data limit.
The window will have a black and red line on it.You may have to tap on some phones.
Step 17: The "Warning" and "Limit" lines should be adjusted.
If you want to do so, tap and drag them up or down.The number of gigabytes of data you can use before your phone sends you an alert is the number left of the black "Warning" line.If you go over your monthly limit, shutting off your data is helpful.
Step 18: You can open the chrome browser.
There is a red, yellow, green, and blue circle.
Step 19: You can tap.
It is in the right corner of the screen.
Step 20: Go to settings.
The option is at the bottom of the menu.
Step 21: Click Data Saver to scroll down.
It is near the bottom of the menu.
Step 22: Right to the "On" position is where the slide data saver should be.
Chrome's Data Saver feature will be enabled if you enable it.
Step 23: Open the app on your phone.
The app has a multicolored triangle on it.
Step 24: You can tap.
It is in the left corner of the screen.
Step 25: You can tap on the settings.
There is a pop-out menu on the left side of the screen.
Step 26: There are auto-update apps.
It is in the middle of the screen.
Step 27: Only the auto-update apps can be accessed over the internet.
The bottom option on this page is this one.It will prevent auto-updating over data.
Step 28: Open the settings on your phone.
The grey gear-shaped app is in the app drawer.
Step 29: Click on the Data usage to scroll down.
Beneath the "Wireless & Networks" heading is where you'll usually find it.To see the option, you may have to tap.
Step 30: The data is left to the "Off" position.
Above or below the data window is where this slider is usually located.If you're close to the end of your data limit, disabling data will prevent your phone from using data at all.
