A Christmas tree is a great way to decorate your home. You can turn pinecones into Christmas trees with a little creativity. You can either line them up on a windowsill or turn them into ornaments or garlands. The design possibilities are endless.
Step 1: Purchase some pinecones.
You can buy bags of pinecones from a craft store, or you can find them outside near a pine tree.Tall pinecones look more like Christmas trees than short ones and can be any shape or size. How many pinecones you get depends on how many trees you want to make. You will need 1 pinecone for each tree.Pinecones are popular in stores. If you have allergies, be aware of this.
Step 2: The pinecones were found with a water and vinegar solution.
The bucket should hold 1 gallon of water and 1/2 cup of vinegar.Place any pinecones that you found outside into the water and weigh them down with a plate or bowl.Pull the pinecones out of the water after an hour. The pinecones should be washed with fresh water. It will remove dirt and insects. If you are using store-bought pinecones, skip this step.Pinecones get wet. They will open up again.
Step 3: After washing the pinecones, let them dry.
Let the pinecones dry on a sheet of newspaper in a warm, dry environment. You can bake them in the oven for 1 hour and 30 minutes to help speed up the process. If you want to prevent the pinecones from steaming in the oven, let them air dry for 15 minutes first.
Step 4: There are pinecones and debris between them.
Things like seeds, pine needles, and leaves are included. The pinecones should have come out when you washed them.Pull out anything that is caught between the pinecones. If you bought your pinecones from a store, you should still do this. Some of them have pine needles inside.
Step 5: You can cover your workspace with newspaper or a tablecloth.
It's a good idea to wear a crafting apron or shirt. If you are going to be using spray paint to color your pinecones, you need to find a well-ventilated place to work.
Step 6: Paint the pinecones green.
The pinecones should be painted first.Wait for the paint to dry. Before moving on, let the pinecones dry completely.Depending on the brand of paint you used, this should take 15 to 20 minutes.Paint the pinecones with a small paintbrush. As you paint it, hold the pinecone by the tip.You can paint over the tip once the pinecone is dry.Apply 2 light coats of spray paint using a sweeping motion if you shake the can first. Before doing the next one, let each coat dry.
Step 7: If you want to add snow, you should paint the pinecone petals white.
It is a great way to make it look like it snowed on your Christmas tree pinecones. You can use a small paintbrush and white craft paint.Let the paint dry before moving on.You can use white puffy paint if you want a different look. The tip can be used to apply it straight from the bottle.
Step 8: If you want to prolong the life of the paint, you need to seal it.
You can use the brush-on spray type as well. You can use either a glossy finish or a matt finish. Before applying the sealer, make sure the paint you applied is completely dry. Before moving on, let the seal dry. This step will help keep the paint from chipping off.
Step 9: If you want more sparkle, add glitter to the pinecone petals.
Add white school glue or tacky glue to the pinecone petals with a paintbrush. There is glitter over the glue.Green will make the tree look more magical. If you coat the pinecone with snow, try iridescent or silver glitter. You can use plain glitter as well as extra-fine glitter. If you want to keep glitter out of the air, use a small paintbrush to apply a clear, acrylic sealer over the glittered parts.
Step 10: Wrap a ribbon around the pinecone.
A thin silver or gold ribbon is great for this. You can use a necklace chain instead.Glue the ends of the garland together.Christmas lights can be made by stringing glass beads onto green thread and wrapping it around a pinecone. There should be some space between the beads. It is possible to use any type of glue, but hot glue is the best.
Step 11: Glue tiny pompoms to the pinecones.
Hot glue or tacky glue can be used for this.Press the pompoms into the glue where you want them to go.You can draw dots with puffy paint instead of using glue and pompoms. There are more cute ideas for ornaments.
Step 12: You can use a bead or button.
Attach a button or bead to the top of the tree.Hot glue will work best, but you can use tacky glue as well.Use an angel- or bow-shaped button or bead if you don't have any star shaped buttons or beads.Use glittery paper to cut a star shape. The foam sticker is shaped like an angel, bow, or star.Attach a ribbon to the tip of the tree.
Step 13: If you want a realistic tree, glue a wine cork trunk to it.
It can give your tree a nice touch, but you don't have to do it.Put hot glue or tacky glue against the bottom of the pinecone and coat the end of a wine cork. The wine cork will make the tree stand out.If you want it to be more realistic, paint it brown. These trees are difficult to stand because of wine corks. If you tie string to the top of the tree, you can turn it into an ornament.
Step 14: If you want a fancy tree, glue the pinecone to the mini flower pot.
You can get a small terracotta flower pot from the craft store.Let the paint dry after you paint the outside of the flower pot.Set the pinecone on top of the flower pot with glue.Red, white, green, silver, and gold are great festive colors. After the first coat of paint dries, you can paint stripes or polka dots on the flower pot.
