A stir-fry consisting of steak and peppers is called pepper steak. You can make the dish with or without onions and tomatoes. Here's how to make a variation of the dish.
Step 1: Cut the meat into slices.
Cut the meat against the grain by slicing it into strips.Cut the strips in half if they are still larger than bite-size.The direction in which the muscle fibers in the beef are aligned is referred to as the grain. While cutting against the grain will make the steak more tender, it will result in a tough, stringy steak. If you can't find flank steak, look for top sirloin, beef round, or chuck steaks.Steaks marked "for swissing" will work.
Step 2: Add the sugar, cornstarch, soy sauce, rice wine, and garlic to it.
Put the ingredients in a large bowl with a tight lid.Continue stirring until the sauce is thick. If you don't have rice wine, there are other ways to use it.If you don't have garlic, you could use garlic powder.
Step 3: The steak needs to be prepared.
Place the steak in the bowl and toss it gently.Take a break for 10 to 30 minutes. The pieces of steak should be covered with liquid.Place the bowl in the fridge to cook the steak.
Step 4: Put the onion into strips.
Cut the onion with a knife. You could slice the onion into wedges. If you prefer a less strong taste, you could reduce the amount of onion by half. The root and stem of the onion can be sliced. The papery skin layers are starting to come off with one of the ends, so grab the outer layers and peel them away.If they don't come off quickly, you may need to loosen them and peel them away. The onion should be cut in half from top to bottom.Start with the center of each wedge.Continue until the layers are left behind. When the slices are moved, the layers should break apart.
Step 5: The peppers should be cut into pieces.
Use a sharp knife to cut the peppers. One green and one red bell pepper can be used.Remove the slices from the center of the vegetable by cutting into the pepper. The pepper begins on the inside top near the stem.Don't slice into the bottom of the stem if you begin each slice at this starting point. The bottom of each slice should be freed by cutting straight down from top to bottom.Use your fingers to break the slices from the center of the pepper. The pepper's seed should not break free. You should have a lot of seeds to clean up.Turn your attention back to your strips.Cut each strip into pieces. If you want to get the proper size, you need to cut larger sections in half.
Step 6: Take the tomatoes and slice them in half.
The cherry tomato should be cut in half.A drained 10-oz can of diced tomatoes could be used to dice a large tomato.
Step 7: The skillet has oil in it.
Add cooking oil to the pan and heat it up.You can use an oil with a high smoking point. It is possible to use plain vegetable oil in a pinch. If you don't have a wok, any heavy skillet pan that is at least 10 inches (25 cm) in diameter will work.
Step 8: It's best to cook the beef.
Add the beef to the pan and cook it through.Stir or toss the beef strips to make sure they cook.If your pan is too small to allow each piece to touch the bottom, you may need to cook the beef in batches.
Step 9: The beef should be set aside.
The beef should be put in a plate or bowl.Keep it warm by setting it aside. If you want to proceed, drain the fat from the pan.
Step 10: There are peppers and onion.
If you want to reduce the heat in the pan, add more cooking oil.Cook the peppers and onions until they are tender-crisp.For 3 or 4 minutes, stir the peppers and onions. The onion should begin to turn translucent and the pepper should start to feel soft.
Step 11: Bring the beef back to the pan.
When the peppers and onions are done, return the beef to the skillet and mix it with the vegetables.
Step 12: If you would like, add the gravy.
In 8 ounces of beef gravy, mix in a saucier pepper steak.Put it in the pan and heat it up.It should take no more than 1 or 2 minutes to cook the gravy. If you like having a sauce to go with your stir-fry, beef gravy is a good option.
Step 13: You can toss the tomatoes.
Before turning off the heat, add your tomatoes to the skillet. Before removing the pan from the heat, the tomatoes should be cooked for 30 seconds. You should mix the tomatoes thoroughly as they cook.Whether you add beef gravy or not, the tomatoes can be added.
Step 14: Warm food to serve.
You can serve the pepper steak over a pile of rice.White, brown, and fried rice are just some of the types of rice you can use.You could serve the pepper steak over noodles.
