Whether you lack a green thumb or are looking for an easy way to bring the outdoors in, creating felt flowers is a fun process. These directions can be used to make a bouquet of roses, peonies, and other flowers.
Step 1: You can choose your felt.
You will need to cut large circles out of your felt to make felt roses.Pick any color you want, and consider adding more shades of green felt to create matching leaves.
Step 2: Cut the felt.
You will need a felt circle to start your rose. You can trace a round object or freehand it if it is not a perfect circle.Depending on the size of your rose, make the circle from 4 to 10 inches in diameter.
Step 3: A spiral can be created.
If you want to cut a spiral into your felt circle, use a pair of scissors.Use a wavy-cut until you reach the center of the circle, starting at one edge.If you cut a wavy pattern around the edge of the circle with your scissors, you will get a flat, snake-like spiral.
Step 4: Go up the spiral.
Roll the spiral inwards from the outside edge.Roll the spiral to create the base of the flower.A pretty rose shape will be created when the spiral is completely rolled up.
Step 5: The rose needs to be secured.
Attach the spiral to the felted rose with a needle and thread.Adding stitches to the back of your thread will keep the layers of the rose in place.Tie off your thread with a second knot.
Step 6: Pick your felt.
For this pattern, you will be making multiple small felt flowers and attaching them in a bunch to a felt base, similar to the appearance of lilacs in real life. For a traditional look, use cream fuschia or lavender colored felt.
Step 7: You should cut your template.
You will need to cut many small circles to start your flowers.Cut between circles measuring 1 inch in diameter. You will need to cut a larger circle to act as the backing. This will change in size depending on the number of blossoms you decide to create, but should be large enough that you can place all your small circles on it without seeing any edges.
Step 8: Cut your flowers.
You can make your flowers with your circles cut out.Take a rounded shape and make it look like a lilac bud.Cut away a minimal amount of fabric if you want to use as much of the circle as possible.
Step 9: You should sew your buds together.
You have created a felt circle, and you want to arrange your small lilac blossoms over it.Use a needle and thread to sew each blossom to the base using a shape in the center of the flowers.Overlap the flowers to make them look realistic.
Step 10: Finish your group.
As you finish sewing on your small blossoms, tie a knot in the back of the bunch with your thread and cut the excess string. If you don't want to add felt flowers, you can enjoy your new blooms.
Step 11: You can choose your felt.
The method of making peonies requires long, skinny strips of felt, so use fabric that you have long pieces of.You can use any color you want.
Step 12: To make felt, cut it to size.
The felt strips need to be at least 112 inch wide. The larger the flower, the longer the piece of felt you use.
Step 13: Glue the strips together.
You will need to make a loop out of each strip of felt to create the illusion of petals.Glue the felt all the way across the strip of fabric by folding it in half.Hold the edges together until they are dry.
Step 14: You can create your petals.
Cut the loop with a pair of scissors.23 of the way down the loop is cut from the top, not the glue end, and are 14 inch apart. The loops are attached to a single band of felt at the bottom. You can either cut the felt straight down or at a slight angle. To see which you prefer, try both. The petals of different sizes will be created by the distance between the slit you cut.Cut the flower very close together. If you want a big flower, put your notch farther apart.
Step 15: Roll up the flower.
Roll the felt strip inwards along the bottom edge.Put glue on the inside of the felt so that the flower sticks together.Add more glue when you reach the end.
Step 16: It's time to finish your peony.
It is done when the flower is completely rolled up.Attach a few stitches of thread to the glue you used to keep the flower together.Adding a few felt leaves will complete the blossom.
Step 17: The best felt to choose from.
A lot of felt is needed for the Dahlias. To do this project, you need several full-sized strips of fabric.Shades of green are used to create matching leaves for the flowers.
Step 18: You should cut your template.
You will need to cut three sections of felt in different sizes because the dahlias have three layers of petals.Cut 16 rectangles measuring 12 inch x 2 inches (5.1 cm), as well as 10 and 7 rectangles that measure 1 inch by 11 inches. You will need a base that is 3 inches across.
Step 19: Cut the petals.
Draw an oblong diamond shape onto the rectangular shapes.Add two points in the center across the length and two more points from the top of the width. These shapes should be cut out.
Step 20: The shape should be adjusted.
You can use your scissors to make the correct shape. To create a horizontal base, round the edges of the two points closest to the diamond, and cut the way up the petals straight across. The shape you are left with is similar to the Pope's hat.
Step 21: Put the petals together.
At the base of the petals, add a dash of hot glue and fold the sides in.This will allow the top part of the petals to be open while creating a rolled edge and pleat at the bottom.Do this for all of the forms.
Step 22: The petals can be combined.
If you want to add the largest petals to your circular base, you need to glue them to the base about 14 of an inch from the edge.Work your way around until you have all your petals.
Step 23: Add a second layer of petals.
The medium-sized petals can be used to create the second layer.Put a small amount of glue on the back of the petals, and stick them below the first layer.
Step 24: Glue on your petals.
Glue the smallest petals in a row 14 of an inch below the base of the second level of petals. There is an open center on the felt circle.
Step 25: It's time to finish your dahlia.
Add a pretty button, bead, brooch, or bit of colored felt with glue to the center of the dahlias to finish them off.You can glue or sew green felt leaves to the flower. You are done!
Step 26: You can choose your felt.
Make sure you have a large piece of felt to start the project because the hydrangeas are made from multiple small sections. If you want, you can use multiple colors.
Step 27: You can cut your template.
You will need to cut flower shapes from your felt. They can be any size, with larger pieces equalling a larger flower. You can cut each piece to make a flower with rounded edges.Increase the size of the circle for a larger bunch of hydrangeas by cutting out a small circle at least 1 inch in diameter.
Step 28: Place your petals in half.
Attach a small amount of hot glue to the center of the flower by folding it in half.Don't glue the petals all the way across, because you want them to stay open along the edges.
Step 29: You should fold your petals again.
If you want your petals to stay together, fold them in half a second time. You will have a small pyramid-esq shape.Use a small amount of glue in the center of the petals to hold the form.
Step 30: Put your petals together.
Attach the tip of the bunch to the small circle. The flat sides of the folded petals should fit together nicely.Add more felt leaves.
Step 31: Finished.
