You can either make money by refining your own gold at home or you can be a jeweler who refines gold in-house.It is possible to refine gold on a small scale if you take appropriate precautions. The aqua regia method can be used to refine gold.
Step 1: You can put your gold jewelry, gold powder or gold Nugget inside of the crucible.
The melting of the material inside is mitigated by the fact that most crucibles are made ofGraphite.
Step 2: The crucible should be on a fireproof surface.
Step 3: Aim at the gold with an acetylene torch.
When the gold is completely melted, aim the flame at it.
Step 4: Use tongs to pick up the crucible.
Step 5: Allow the gold to be separated into pieces.
If you are refining small pieces of jewelry like rings, you can simply melt the piece without making shot particles.
Step 6: The appropriate container should be selected.
If you want to refine an ounce of gold, you will need 300 liters of container capacity.Large plastic buckets or Pyrex Vision Ware pots can be used.
Step 7: Wear protective gear.
You can protect your hands from acid by wearing rubber gloves. You should wear gloves when handling any of the chemicals in this article. An apron protects your clothing. You should wear goggles to protect your eyes.Wear a face mask to protect yourself from noxious fumes.
Step 8: The container should be placed in aventilated area outside.
The fumes from the aqua regia process are very dangerous.
Step 9: Every ounce of gold should be put into a container with 30 liters of nitric acid.
Allow the acid to react with gold for 30 minutes.
Step 10: For every ounce of gold, add 120 liters of hydrochloric acid or muriatic acid.
Allow the solution to sit until the acid fumes have dissipated.
Step 11: Take the acid out of the larger container.
Don't pour the particles out with the acid as they will ruin the gold. The acid should be green. If the color is not clear, you should pour it through a filter.
Step 12: Add 1 pound of urea to a quart of water.
Continue heating the mixture.
Step 13: Gradually add the water/urea mixture to the acid.
As you add water and urea, the acid mixture will bubble. If you add the mixture slowly, the acid won't bubble out of the container. The nitric acid in your solution is not neutralized by the water/urea mixture.
Step 14: To add a gold precipitant to a quart of water, follow the manufacturer's instructions.
You can add 1 ounce of precipitant to the gold you are refining.Don't put your face near the container's opening. The smell is strong.
Step 15: Slowly add the water/precipitant solution to acid.
The muddy brown color is caused by the separation of the gold particles.Allow 30 minutes for the precipitant solution to work.
Step 16: Put a stick into the solution.
Step 17: The solution should be put on the end of the paper towel.
Step 18: Place a drop of precious metal detection liquid on acid.
If the spot turns purple, you need to give the precipitant more time to work.
Step 19: As soon as the acid is clear of gold particles, put it into a clean container.
The mud collected at the bottom of the container should make the acid amber. The mud should not be poured with acid. The mud is gold.
Step 20: Add water to the container.
Allow the mud to settle by stirring the water.
Step 21: The acid was poured into the container.
Step 22: The gold mud needs to be washed 3 to 4 times with water.
Step 23: Use aqua ammonia to rinse the gold.
White vapors will come off the gold mud.To avoid inhaling fumes, make sure to protect your eyes.
Step 24: The ammonia can be removed with distilled water.
Step 25: The mud should be put into a large beaker.
Remove all of the distilled water.
Step 26: Place your beaker on the plate.
The beaker should heat up gradually so that the thermal shock doesn't cause it to shatter.
Step 27: Continue heating the mud until it gets a consistency.
Step 28: The mud should be applied to paper towels.
The mud should be wrapped in the towels and soaked in alcohol.
Step 29: Take the mud and put it into a crucible.
If you performed the process correctly, the mud will be 99 percent pure.
Step 30: The gold should be poured into the ingot mold.
If you want, you can exchange it for cash at a precious metals dealer.
