There is a "map" of the human body on our hands.Every part of your body is matched by a point on your hands.Nerve impulses travel to your body area when you apply pressure to the reflexes on your hands. The relaxation response is produced by these impulses. As muscles relax, blood vessels open, increasing circulation, which increases the amount of oxygen and nutrients that get to cells in that part of the body. Some people have found relief with the use of these techniques. You should know some of the techniques and zones that correspond to different parts of your body before attempting to perform reflexology.
Step 1: Look at a chart.
Some of the points on the hands are easier to see with an actual hand chart.
Step 2: The top of the fingers are where the head, brain, and sinuses are located.
The head, brain, and sinuses are represented from the tip of each finger to the first joint. The pituitary, pineal, and hypothalamus are located in the center of the brain and can be beneficial for insomnia and other sleep issues.
Step 3: You should apply between the first and second knuckles.
The area between your first and second knuckles is what corresponds to your neck. The zone for your throat is located at the base of your thumb.
Step 4: You can apply between the second and third knuckle of your finger.
Your eyes or ears are represented by your fingers between the second and third knuckles.Your ring fingers and pinkies are associated with your ears, whereas your index and middle fingers are linked to your eyes.
Step 5: To apply to your chest, use the upper portion of your palm.
The chest, breast, lung, and bronchial areas are located just below the four fingers on the palm sides of both hands.
Step 6: Take a line from your middle finger to your palm.
Take a picture of four more zones descending down in line with your middle finger, just below the previous upper chest zone. Each of the four is about the size of a dime, and the last one is at the bottom of your palm. The solar plexus adrenal glands are in descending order.
Step 7: Toward your thumb, apply to the outside of your palm.
You quickly descend through four thin zones after starting at the base of your thumb and leading down to the bottom of the palm.Your spine and spine column are represented by the outside ridge of these zones. The spine can be found along the side of the thumb, reaching down to the wrist with the spine located closest to it.
Step 8: You should apply to the inside of your palms.
Imagine a line from your pinkies down to your palms.Three more zones are about the size of a nickel. The top and bottom zones on both hands correspond to the hip and thigh on the other side of the body. The heart and spleen are located on the left side of the body while the right side contains the liver and gall bladder.
Step 9: Put your hand on the wrist.
You can find three more zones beneath your palm. The lymph system is located in line with your middle finger on your wrist. In line with your pinkies, you will find the zones representing the testes/ovaries next to this zone. You will find the location of your sciatic nerve beneath the two zones in a long thin line.
Step 10: Look for the correct area.
You can find the zone that corresponds to the area of your body you want to work in by using a chart.reflexologists believe that you can simply work the entire hands. If you suffer from a sinus headaches, you would have to work on your fingers between the first knuckle and the fingertips. There is no evidence that this area helps relieve symptoms of sinusitis. You would apply the techniques to the areas of your body that correspond to your bowels, which is at the bottom of the palms from your middle fingers.
Step 11: Walk using thumb-walking techniques.
Put your thumb on the area you want to focus on.While flexing the first thumb knuckle, slide the thumb back slowly.Slowly and steadily, the thumb knuckle is moved up and down.
Step 12: You can use a rotating motion.
You should rest your thumb on the area you want to manipulate.Keep a steady touch while rotating your thumb in a circle to increase pressure.
Step 13: After rotating, apply pressure.
Holding your thumb on the reflex point increases relaxation after doing a rotating motion.Hold for three.
Step 14: The different techniques should be integrated.
If you have chest congestion, you would put the correct zone on each hand, with the top of the palm just below the last set of finger knuckles. You can use a thumb-walking technique across the zone. Finally, apply the rotating technique to smaller sections of the zone with a hold on the section before moving to the next.
Step 15: Without causing any pain, press firmly.
As you apply more pressure to the hands, make sure you don't cause yourself or the person you're applying it to any pain. The action should never cause pain or discomfort because of the firm pressure.
Step 16: The zones should be stimulated on both hands.
It is important for the corresponding zones on both hands to be stimulated when applying techniques.Do not use the fingertips on your left hand.Work the fingertips on both hands. For zones that are only represented on one hand, this isn't the case.
Step 17: Relax and drink lots of water.
Much like a regular massage, reflexologists recommend that you drink lots of water after a hand reflexology session to help your body remove the lactic acid that builds up and is released during the session. It is normal to experience increased urination and bowel movements, as well as sweating and changes to sleep patterns after you have had a session. The feeling of burning or tingling in muscles that have recently been stimulated is caused by lactic acid release. You can drink a sports drink with electrolytes.
