Positano is definitely more "touristy" and crowded. Praiano is only a few kms down the coast and is beautiful. We stayed there in November 2006 and loved everything about it. We found it easy to travel between Praiano/Positano/Amalfi/Ravello with the local bus, don't be put off by negative comments about the ride.
