Is Durum Wheat Semolina a whole Grain?
The 30-Day Nutrition Upgrade program gives players points for choosing whole grain foods. It is possible to distinguish one from the other with an advanced degree in label reading. One of my upgraders recently posted on our private Facebook group.
Food labels can be hard to understand. There are two pasta labels, one saying durum wheat semolina and the other saying enriched Durumwheat semolina. If it doesn't say enriched, does that mean it's whole grain?
Durum is a strain of wheat that is used mostly for pasta."Durum" is its first name and "Wheat" its family name.If it says "whole grain" you can assume that it is refined, which means that the germ and bran have been removed.
The word semolina refers to the fact that the durum wheat is coarse, in order to produce a good pasta texture. It isn't part of the lawyer's identity like her first or last name but an indication of her preparation and function.
A refined grain is almost always signaled by the word enriched.Grains that have been refined are often enriched in an effort to replace what is lost in refining. You won't see enriched whole wheat because it would be pointless to replace the vitamins that have not been removed. The absence of the word enriched does not mean that it is not refined.
You can save a lot of time by looking for the 100% whole grain stamp. You don't need to flip the package over to see the ingredient list when you see " 100% whole grain" on the front.
Does any company make whole grain?I love the pasta shape but can't find any whole grain.
That was my take away from your initial essay.More clearly than other sites, thanks for clarifying this in fewer words.
The method of grinding wheat is called Semolina. It is more coarse. When I find a loaf that is bottom coated, I love it.It has a little crunch.
