Re: Culra bothy "open" It's left open for emergencies only and like you say use at you're own risk.
Can you walk around Loch ericht?
There's nice walking and cycling trails along the loch with views across the water to several significant mountains including Ben Alder. This walk takes you along the western side of the loch and past the Ericht Forest. The walk starts from Dalwhinnie train station at the northern end of the loch.
Is Culra Bothy still closed?
It should be noted that the Mountain Bothies Association website says the lovely Culra Bothy is currently closed indefinitely due to asbestos.
Can you cycle to Culra Bothy?
For us the best way in to Culra is by cycle from Dalwhinnie, and there is a good cycling track right up to the door of the bothy. There are two starting points - one from beside and behind the petrol station or from the railway station.
Can you cycle around Loch ericht?
The cycle ride is easy and mostly flat along the shore of Loch Ericht for about five miles - it's good gravel well maintained, and fairly level. After about a mile along the loch you go past the new 'gate house' (with a cycle/pedestrian gate on the right) and, after a second house go a further few miles along the loch.
