If you want to learn to play the drums, you don't need to buy an expensive kit.A drum practice pad can be used by a beginner. You can focus on technique instead of making a lot of noise with drum pads. The best drummers use practice pads all the time to get perfect sticking and speed.
Step 1: Purchase gum rubber for your pad.
Depending on your needs and style, you have several options.Thinner rubber is the standard thickness. For a less bouncy surface, you can go thicker. You can buy a sheet of gum rubber online, which will allow you to choose your thickness and length. You can try out an old mouse pad if you can't get a hold of rubber.Old shoes have rubber soles on them.
Step 2: The shape of your desired pad can be cut from plywood.
Before starting, make sure there are no cracks or splinters in the wood.If you have enough room to practice, you can make the pad in any shape you want.If you already have a usable slab of plywood or pine, you can cut the rubber, not the wood, to fit it.If you want to make a mouse pad, trace the shape of rubber on the wood and then cut it.It is easy to work and light enough to carry around.Any wood can do it.
Step 3: The plywood needs to be sanded.
Sand the corners of the wood to make them rounded.Make sure the center of the pad is smoothed over without splinters or bumps by taking your time. You don't want the wood to rip up your rubber pad, so you build a new one.
Step 4: Place the rubber sheet over the shape of the pad.
Put your plywood on top of whatever you're using for rubber.Take the shape of the plywood and put it on the rubber.
Step 5: To fit your practice pad, cut the rubber with a blade.
An X-acto knife, box cutter, or another precision knife can be used to cut rubber.Don't sawing with the knife, pull it in one long, fluid motion.
Step 6: Strong glue should be applied to the top of the plywood.
Superglue, Krazy glue, or some other multi- surface glue is what you want. It's important to read the bottle to make sure it sticks to the rubber and wood on your pad.Generously apply a thin line of glue across the entire surface of the pad.
Step 7: Leave the wood to dry for 1-2 hours after pressing the mouse pad onto it.
Don't go any further until the glue is completely dry.
Step 8: The pad should be covered with duct tape to make it louder.
Wrap the whole thing in tape if you want to make a thicker pad.Carefully overlap the lines of tape so that they don't bunch up and ruin your playing surface.
Step 9: You can practice your rudiments with a mouse pad.
A mouse pad can be used to practice sticking on hard services. You can work on essential rhythms, your stick speed, and control while you can't do fills or drum solo. The fabric coated pads are what you want. You can make a quick practice pad by glueing two pads together.
Step 10: Use pillows to focus on stick control and speed.
When you hit the stick down, it will stay there until you pick it up again. It's a good thing that you have to focus on your wrist movement with every hit.You won't be able to practice drum rolls, but your stick control will go up, as will speed and strength. It will take time, but world-famous drummers like Tony Royster Jr. are blazing fast because they grew up practicing on pillows.
Step 11: For a quiet playing surface, cover hard surfaces with pieces of fabric or sweaters.
The tighter the fabric is, the better.A soft surface is all you need for a practice pad.Wrap these around your actual drum heads, pots, or pans, so that you can quietly play your kit. You're more likely to rip the fabric to shreds in time. You can use old sheets and clothing that you no longer own.
Step 12: Try hitting a ball.
The rounded surface makes it hard to aim when landing the stick.Adding or leaking air can make drumming easier. It will take more wrist strength to play on a pillow.
Step 13: You should play on your own thigh.
It will take some getting used to, but your legs have good rebound. They are with you everywhere. If you want to be the best drummer, you need to practice all the time. The place in a pinch may be your thighs.
