The ancient Chinese martial art of Kung Fu is also known as Gong Fu.If you're inspired to learn this art, but there isn't a school nearby, you can learn it on your own.It can be done if you're committed and ambitious. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it.
Step 1: It is a good idea to clean out an area of your home.
Since you'll be doing a lot of jumping, kicking, punching, and basically tearing through whatever's in front of you (or to the left, right, or behind), designate an area of your home to be for your kung fu practice sessions. It should be at least ten feet.If you don't have an empty room to use, you should clear out the corner of the room and remove any objects that you do not want to break.
Step 2: Get a punching bag.
You can hold off for a while, but eventually you want a punching bag.At first, you'll be doing your moves in the air, but eventually you want to have resistance, which is where a punching bag comes in handy. You can either hang a bag from the ceiling or buy a free-standing one at most sporting goods stores.
Step 3: Find instructions.
The best way to learn kung fu is through an actual teacher. If you work hard and persist, you can learn kung fu.Purchase a DVD, watch a video online, or look at a school's website. You can watch short videos that teach you moves at the same time.It is best to find more than one source. You want to make sure you do the school that appeals to you the most. Some people claim to be experts when they're not.It can be helpful to find more than one source.
Step 4: Pick an area to focus on first.
It's not easy to tell yourself that you're going to learn everything in kung fu.Pick a focus when you're starting.Do you want to concentrate on jumping after you get a few stances down?Kicking? Is it punching? It's easy to write a lesson plan for yourself. You'll work on stances and kicks on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you mix it up with core skills.
Step 5: Take care of your balance and flexibility.
In kung fu stances need to be held in tip top form. What is the best way to master this? There is yoga.It may seem like it's unnecessary, but what it is doing is setting you up to be a great kung fu player.Every session should start with a warm up and stretching session.A warm up can include a jog, jumping jacks, and push ups.You should stretch out your muscles. This keeps you injury-free, but it also makes you more flexible and limber.
Step 6: Take a few stances.
There are no bones in the stances. If you're coming from the wrong position, you can't deliver the right moves. The first three are meant for traditional kung fu and use with weapons. They're an important part of kung fu ideology. The horse stance is one of the stances you can work on.Hold your fists in the air and bend your knees about 30 degrees.Keep your back straight. The stance.Draw your left leg back, like you're in a lunge, by bending your knees. Then, hold your left fist to your chest and snap out your right fist.Bring your left in front.Change fists as you do so.The stance of the cat.Lean back on your right leg.Touch your toes to the ground when you take your left leg.If you're in a resting boxing position, hold both fists.Your front leg should be able to come up in defense if someone came at you.The stance. The fighting stance is needed if you want to practice kung fu.This stance is similar to a boxing stance, with one foot in front of the other, fists up, and knees relaxed.
Step 7: You need to work on your punch.
Most of the force comes from your hips.Similar to boxing, kung fu has jabs, uppercuts, and hooks.Let's talk about all three. The jab.In fighter's stance, left foot in front of right foot, bend your knees, turn your hip toward your opponent, and throw out your left fist, immediately followed by your right.Take your right hip out as you come out.The hook. You want your hook to be small. In fighter's stance, right foot behind, take your right fist, rotation of your hip back, and swing through to your left, forming a hook shape. The power is in your hips. The uppercut. If you're in a fighter's stance, lower your fist and bring it up, as if you want to hit your opponent in the chin.If you twist your hips, this is where your power is coming from.
Step 8: Work on your blocks.
Depending on what you're blocking, your block will be different.Start with the fighting stance. You are prepared to protect your face and keep attacks from being effective.Blocks are very similar to boxing for punches, jabs, and hooks.Take that arm and keep it bent, whichever side is being threatened. You can attack with your other arm.Use both arms for kicks.Keep them bent and by your face, but move your hips to the side that is being threatened. It's more painful for them if you hit your face on the backlash.
Step 9: You need to get your kicks strong.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of kung fu is kicking. There are three basic kicks you can start with. The kick.Stand in front of a punching bag.Take a step forward with your left foot, and then hit the right side of the bag with the inside of your foot.Go to the other side. The kick.Stand in front of a punching bag.Bring your right foot out in front of you, bent at the knee, by taking a step forward with your left foot.It will shoot away from you if you snap it forward. The kick.Stand with your left foot in front of your right. If you want to hit the punching bag at shoulder level, you have to move your weight onto your left foot.If you want to practice your balance, stay on your back leg.
Step 10: You can practice combinations on your bag.
Start by doing the motions in the air.Once you have a grip on the move, you can do it with your punching bag.Take a break when you start to get worn out.Try to find a friend to spar with once you get really confident. If you have protective gear each other can wear, or pads, you can put on the recipient's hands while the other practices their punching and kicks.
Step 11: Do it with the dragon.
The entire time you should be staring at your opponent is related to this move.Take up the horse stance, but widen your legs and bend your knees a bit deeper.Put your fingers in a claw shape when you snap out your wrist. This could be used to dig into your opponent.Come out of your squat and kick your opponent in the stomach.
Step 12: You can try the snake.
In this pose, you raise your head up when you strike, just like a snake.Spread out your legs, right behind your left, resting your weight on your back foot.Keep your knees bent.If you want to slice through your opponent, flatten your hands. In front of you, pull out your right. You can block your opponent by grabbing their arm and kicking them.
Step 13: It's like approaching like a leopard.
If you need to flee, this move allows you to do so.Leaning back on your back leg, take up a wide fighter's stance. When you're ready to hit, throw your weight forward and hit your opponent with your palm and fingers, instead of your fist.If you do not do it carefully, you could hurt yourself.
Step 14: You should fly like a crane.
This move is passive. You wait for your opponent to come to you with the crane.Take up the cat stance, but with your feet close together. This hides your foot. You can distract your opponent by raising your arms to the sides.Lift up your front foot, which has only the toes on the ground, and kick it into your favorite kick.
Step 15: Pounce like a tiger.
This move is effective.Take up a fighter's stance, but wider. You should be in a squat.Put your hands in front of your shoulders.Throw a jab-jab and then kick at the throat with a side kick.
Step 16: There are two main schools of kung fu.
If you're not practicing martial arts on the days you aren't, you should read some of the classics. You will learn about the two schools of kung fu.The oldest school of kung fu is here. This type is known for practices that strengthen muscles. It is what most people think about kung fu.There is a person named Wu Dung. The original concept of kung fu is an interpretation of this school. It's internal moves and practices strengthen and manipulate chi or life force. The focus is on focus, zen, and internal power.
Step 17: Think of the moves as animals.
In many of these moves, it is helpful to think of animals as the origin of this martial art.It will allow you to tap into your potential and put you in the proper mindset.A man from New Zealand is said to have dug a deep hole and practiced jumping in and out of it.He dug deeper and became a humanoid animal. When you're practicing, you should think of animals as well.
Step 18: Meditate.
Japanese samurai use meditation to improve their fighting skills. It gave them clarity and helped them see what the right attack would be.They were able to clear their minds and slow down. The same is still true.A day of meditation can help you find inner balance and power.Think of a car accident.Everything slows down while it's happening. This is the state of relaxation. This peaceful, zen state can be useful in fighting because everything becomes slower.
Step 19: Practice, practice.
Keeping practice is the only way to get into the mind of a kung fu artist. The moves may seem silly. You might think you're not getting anywhere. It can become a way of life if you practice every day, meditate and read.Try sparring with a friend and practicing in the air.As you get better, look for the next challenge.Fix yourself and make changes.Make sure you're doing it correctly by reviewing your source material. You're not doing kung fu if you don't.
