A dupatta is a scarf that is part of women's traditional clothing.Whether you need one for cultural reasons or just want to try something new, they're easy to wear. You're good to go if you follow the right steps and wear them for the correct occasion.
Step 1: Wrinkles can be removed from the fabric by ironing it.
Most dupattas are silk.If you want to iron silk dupattas, you need to wash them in warm water and then iron them on low heat by pressing the iron down across the surface of the fabric. If your dupatta is cotton, you can press it down with the iron on high heat by spraying it with a spray bottle and water.Don't leave the iron in the same place for more than a few seconds.
Step 2: In front of you, hold the dupatta horizontally.
Stand in front of the mirror with your dupatta in both hands.Roll it up until it fits in your hands. When equal lengths hang from both sides, shift the dupatta left and right. You can put on your dupatta if you can't find a mirror, but it will be a bit harder.
Step 3: The dupatta should be placed against the back of your neck.
If you want to rest the dupatta on your neck, you need to move it up and over your head.If you want the ends to flow down your neck, pull each side down. The backside should be against your neck.
Step 4: The edges of the dupatta need to be pulled over your head.
Pull the dupatta up and over your head with both of your hands. You should cover as much of your head as you want.If you're going to a Muslim function, cover your head.If you're attending a Sikh, Hindu, or non- religious event, leave your dupatta over the back of your hair.
Step 5: Wrap the sides of the dupatta over the other shoulder.
Take one side of your dupatta, hang it in front of you, and wrap it over your shoulder.Do the same thing with the other side of the dupatta.Take a look at yourself in the mirror and make a decision.
Step 6: The dupatta has hair inside it.
If you wear your hair up, use 1 or more hairpins to secure it and help it stay in place as you enjoy the event. If you wear your hair down, you can pin the 2 sections at your crown together.Fasten the loose parts of the dupatta with safety pins.Do whatever feels right.
Step 7: The dupatta is in front of you.
To get the top-right corner, hold it with one hand and the other. As you stretch the dupatta out, hold each hand as far away from your body as possible. The length of each hand should be the same distance from your body in a horizontal position.
Step 8: Place the dupatta in front of you by folding it in half.
Attach the corners of the dupatta with your hands. While holding the 2 corners together, grab the top corner with your other hand.If you hold the dupatta in front of you, it should be half the size.Take each arm away from your body at the same length.
Step 9: The dupatta should be at your nose.
Bring your hands to the back of your head while holding each corner. The dupatta should run along the middle of your nose. The dupatta needs to be adjusted on your nose and under your eyes.
Step 10: Tie the dupatta around your nose.
Make sure you can see by placing the dupatta on your nose.Tie a standard knot to keep your head in place. The knot should be centered in the back of your head.
Step 11: Put the front of the dupatta over your head.
Pull the front of the dupatta across the top of your head until it hangs down your back.Make sure your head and face are covered after. The top of the dupatta needs to be adjusted. Before you pull the front over your head, make sure that there's an opening at the top and bottom of the dupatta. You won't have a hole for your eyes if the openings are at the sides.
Step 12: For a traditional look, drape the dupatta over your head.
The most popular way to wear a dupatta is on your head.If you want the dupatta to run parallel to your head, place it behind your neck. You can drape each corner over your forearms. For religious celebrations, engagements, marriages, or general festivities, wear your dupatta this way.
Step 13: In a U-turn, cover your head with a dupatta.
Start by holding the dupatta behind your head from the top with your arms pointing in a different direction. If you want the top to be parallel with your head, place it on it.Make sure your forearms are covered by the dupatta.Wrap the free corner over the same elbow in the opposite direction and drape one of the corners over your elbow. The first corner should be over your shoulder and the second over the back of your arm.In a U-turn, drape your dupatta with churidar, salwar kameez, andSharara suits.
Step 14: If you want a flashier look, pin your dupatta to your waist.
Put the dupatta over your forearms.Take one end that hangs past your forearms and connect it to your waist with a safety pin.If you want, you can repeat this on the other side of your body.
