How To Visit Niihau

For a long time, no one was allowed to visit Niihau, which is Hawaii's "forbidden island".If you want to visit this island, there are a couple options. You can take a helicopter tour of Niihau, which includes a visit to the island's secluded beaches. You can take a hunting tour, where you can hunt Eland or Auodad. The owners of the island run the tourism options.

Step 1: Niihau's tourism agency requires 5 or more, so they will take names for a standby list.

Since you're essentially renting the aircraft privately for the day, you can charter the helicopter for no group minimum. The same agency that gives group tours can be used to set up a charter.

Step 2: You can reserve your tour by calling or email the tourism agency.

Email niihauisland@haiwaiian.net if you want to reserve a helicopter tour on a specific date.Try to book your tour as early as possible.A tour costs $465 per person.Contact the agency directly for the most up-to-date pricing on discounts and group rates. If there is bad weather, the agency will work with you to see if rescheduling is an option.

Step 3: 3 hours on the ground to explore one of Niihau's secluded beaches is included in the standard tour package.

The residents of the island prefer privacy so they won't meet you on your tour. You don't have to worry about culture differences if you dress and behave the same.

Step 4: Dress nicely and get to Niihau Helicopter Inc.

There is a possibility that this is not the case.Get your group to the helicopter office early and wear clothing you can run around in, like comfortable shorts, a t-shirt, and hiking or athletic shoes. The weather is going to be very warm, so wear thin, comfortable fabrics. The office is located in the town of Kaumakani on Highway 50 and is the first business on your left when you enter from the main airport.Lunch is included in the tour, but you might want to bring a few things.

Step 5: Make sure you have the permits.

You need a Hawaii Hunter Education wallet card or letter of exemption to hunt on Hawaii.Hawaii Hunter Education wallet cards are available to graduates of Hawaii's hunter education course. You can sign up for one of these classes by calling.Inquire about class length and cost directly from them. You can fill out an exemption request if you have a hunting license in your state.

Step 6: Call or email the tourism agency to make a reservation.

You can reserve your hunt by calling 1-877-441-3500 or niihauisland@hawaiian.net.You don't need a minimum for this package. You will have a full day to hunt wild Polynesian boar, sheep, eland, and Auodad sheep. The price for a full day of hunting is $2,200.There are rifle rentals for $120.The Eland and the Auodad cost $3700 and 2700 respectively, but the agency will skin, pack, and transport your trophy for you.Payments can be made on the day of the event. In the event of bad weather, the agency will try to accommodate you.Since the residents prefer privacy, you won't meet any island natives. You should dress the way you normally would.

Step 7: Arrive 10 minutes early to the Niihau Helicopter Office.

Get to the office in Kaumakani at least 10 minutes early, wearing comfortable hunting clothing, like camo pants, a camo t-shirt, and hiking boots. You can find the office on the south side of Highway 50 as soon as you get into town. You will be outside all day, so make sure to bring a bottle of water.
