You will most likely have to cut pieces of tile if you want to change the look of the bathroom or kitchen. You do not need a tile cutter. An angle grinder is the best way to cut ceramic, glass, and porcelain tile.A wet saw is one of the easiest ways to trim tile.
Step 1: Use a tile marker to draw the cut line on the front of the tile.
The side that is smooth or glazed is the front of the tile.Your line will be more accurate if you have a circle template or rounded edge. You can use a lead pencil or crayon if you don't have a tile marker. If you want to draw a line on the tile instead of using masking tape, lay a strip of tape on top of it.The line won't blend into the tile if you see it this way.
Step 2: Attach the tile to the workbench with a C-clamp.
The cut mark is not on the bench if the edge of the tile hangs off the side. You can't cut into the bench. The top screw should be twisted counterclockwise to loosen it.The bench and tile should be sandwiched between the ends of the clamped against the workbench. The tile will be held in place if the screw is turned clockwise. The process creates a lot of dust.If you don't have a C-clamp, you can use another type of clamp. There are many types at a hardware store.
Step 3: Put in a continuous rim blade to get your grinder ready.
It is possible to use this kind of blade instead of one that is segments.Use a wrench to loosen the nut in the center of the blade disc.Remove the nut and set the new blade in place. The nut needs to be tightened over the new blade. The wheel guard should be kept down at all times.
Step 4: Cut through the tile with the grinder.
Pull the angle grinder slowly. You shouldn't try to go all the way through the tile the first time.Score it, then use the indent to guide your blade on your second pass for a deeper cut.Cut as many times as necessary. The process will end up with jagged edges if you rush it.You will have to make more cuts if the tile is harder. When using an angle grinder, wear protective glasses and a dust mask as there can be a lot of debris in the air.
Step 5: Use a square to draw a straight line.
You can use a crayon or tile marker. If you want your pencil or marker to line up perfectly with your measurement, set the square about 4 inch below the line. You can buy a square at a hardware store. You can use anything that has a straight edge if you don't have a square.
Step 6: Use the glass cutter to score the tile.
Press down on the glass cutter as you drag it along. To cut through the tile is the idea. You don't want to cut all the way to the bottom of the tile.It sounds like a scratching or crackling noise. You can buy a glass cutter at a craft store. It's a small hand tool with a sharp blade that cuts through glass tiles, other thin glass objects, and other hard materials when you press down and drag.To help guide the glass cutter, set a square along the cut line.
Step 7: There is a wire clothes hanger on the flat surface.
A thick piece of plywood is the best surface for a workbench.Line up the long wire part of the plane.A thick piece of regular wire can be used if you don't have a wire hanger. It needs to be small enough to run along the line.
Step 8: Pressing down on each side will break the tile.
Use your palms to push gently to avoid splintering the tile, but use enough pressure to break it.The sides of the tile have room to snap off if the table is elevated slightly. If you break the tile, you should wear safety glasses to protect yourself. The tile is very easy to snap. You may need to score it again if it doesn't work out.If you have a rough cut edge, you can sand it on a concrete slab or brick.
Step 9: Use a square to mark where you want to make the cut.
Draw straight lines with a square.Make your marks with a lead or grease pencil.Don't use permanent markers. It will be difficult to remove the tile in the end.
Step 10: Turn on the water pump and fill the tray with water.
The water will cool the blade of the wet saw.The maximum line is marked on the edge of the tray.If you are worried about it getting wet, you can cover the floor with a plastic drop cloth. There is a chance that the water will splash out.
Step 11: Line up the blade with the cut mark after setting the tile on the saw.
You should slide the tile back from the blade so it doesn't start cutting right away. The tile should be completely flat on the saw's surface. If you put the widest section of tile between the blade and the fence, you won't have to get close to it.
Step 12: The fence needs to be locked along the edge of the tile.
The lock plate can be moved along the saw to adjust for different sizes of tile. There is a bar on top of the saw's table.Once you have it aligned with the blade, push it against the edge of the tile. There is a lever on the side of the fence.Pull it out and push it against the saw to lock it.The fence can be locked on either side of the blade.Depending on which is most comfortable for you.
Step 13: Press the button on the side of the saw to turn it on.
The switch may be green.Wait for the water to cover the blade. You should wear safety glasses and gloves. You should always leave the plastic covering over the blade.
Step 14: The tile should be pushed along the fence into the blade.
The tile should not be forced through the blade. You are guiding it with both hands. When you get near the end, firmly press the 2 halves of the tile together as you push it through the blade so that it doesn't break before the cut is made. While you guide the tile, make any necessary adjustments.Push the tile back into place if the blade strays from your cut mark. The thicker the tiles, the slower they should be pushed through. If you hear the blade slow down, you will know you are pushing it too fast.Don't take your eyes off the blade. It's very dangerous to look away for a second.Keep your hands away from the blade. You can use scrap wood to push the tile through the blade.
Step 15: Remove the tile from the table by turning off the saw.
There is a red button on the side of the saw.Wait until the blade stops rotating before grabbing the tile. Before you turn off the saw, make sure the tile is free of the blade. It could go off the table. You should use a damp sponge to wipe down the saw after it's been unplugged.
