You will need to decide if you will take your pets with you when you visit or move to Panama. It can seem like an overwhelming project to bring a pet to a foreign country. You can successfully transport your dog to Panama if you take things one step at a time.If you start the process early, you will have enough time to prepare the paperwork, get official clearance, and make travel arrangements for your pet.
Step 1: One appointment is needed for vaccinations.
The first thing you need to do is make sure your dog has all the necessary vaccinations. It is important that there is a vaccine.Make sure to get paperwork from your vet before the first appointment to verify your dog's vaccine.Timing is important. You need to get the vaccine within 30 days of arriving in Panama. You won't be able to take your dog into the country if you get the vaccine too late.
Step 2: Obtain form 7001.
The Certification of Good Health of Exportation of Small Animals is also known as Form 7001.It needs to be filled out by a vet before you can bring your dog to Panama. The form can be downloaded from the USDA website. If there is a USDA office in your area, you can pick one up.If you access the form online, print it out.You need to bring it with you to your appointment.
Step 3: You can make another appointment with a USDA accredited vet.
Only vets accredited by the USDA can fill out the form.Do you know if your current vet is USDA accredited? If you can't locate a vet who is, call around.A USDA accredited vet will perform a routine exam on your dog and fill out a form so you can legally transport it to Panama.Make sure your vet fills out the form. This is necessary.
Step 4: You must have your forms authorized by the Consulate of Panama.
The form 7001 needs to be obtained from the Consulate of Panama. You have to pay a $30 authorization fee when you mail in the forms. You have to pay with a money order.Cash and checks are not accepted. When you mail in the forms, you should include a self addressed envelope. If your trip is coming up fast, paying for overnight shipping is a good idea. The forms will have a stamp that shows they're authorized by the Consulate of Panama.
Step 5: You have to fill out the Home Quarantine Request.
The Home Quarantine request assures that your dog will be with you when you arrive in Panama.Three days before you arrive in Panama, you should fax or email this piece of paperwork. The form can be found on the embassy of Panama website. The form asks about your dog's breed, age, and weight. The form can be fax or email.
Step 6: To check regulations, call your airline.
You can book your tickets by calling your airline. You can ask about the restrictions on traveling with a dog.Different airlines have different rules.Dogs will not be flown by some airlines during hot months. If you're flying during the summer or spring, you may have to try several different airlines before you find one that will take your dog.You should know the requirements for things like crate size and fees.
Step 7: Pack all the paperwork.
You need your dog's vaccinations, form 7001, and Home Quarantine Request. Before you leave, make sure you have all the forms. If your luggage gets lost along the way, pack them in your carry on.
Step 8: A suitable kennel can be selected.
Your dog should be able to stand and turn around. If you have a small dog, look for a kennel that can fit under your seat.Your dog may be able to travel to Panama with you.
If you have a long drive to the airport, make sure your dog is well taken care of.It will not distract you when you drive if you keep your dog in a crate or seatbelt.Make sure to make lots of stops to let your dog out of the car and use the bathroom. For short periods, never leave your dog alone in the car. This can be dangerous.
Step 10: The Doctor of the Department of Zoonosis Control will need your paperwork.
After you get off the plane, you will meet with a vet.The veterinarians will examine your dog after you present your paperwork. If you completed the paperwork correctly, your dog will be allowed to leave the airport with you.Sometimes dogs are sent back to their country of origin.Make sure you fill out all the paperwork correctly because this is usually due to a paperwork issue.
Step 11: See if it is necessary.
In rare cases, your dog may have a health issue. The vet will explain the conditions to you.$7 a day is the fee.
Step 12: The entry fee can be paid in cash.
There is an entry fee for your dog to enter Panama. It needs to be paid in cash.Credit and debit cards are not accepted. When you get to the airport in Panama, make sure you have cash with you.You can take your dog into the country once you paid the fee.You should exchange dollars for Panama's current currency at the airport.Panama uses the U.S. Dollar as paper currency.Panama does not print paper money. The Balboa coinage can be used with U.S. coinage. The U.S. is in other words. The currency that you need is dollars.
