To keep your pet mice happy, make sure you have the right toys for them. There are separate needs for mice and other classic pets to keep at home. You can have fun with your mice if you have safe, enjoyable, and user-friendly toys.
Step 1: If you want a cheap alternative, provide wooden or cardboard toys.
Before buying expensive mice toys, look around your house for leftover toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls and small logs of wood. The mice like to chew on the toys and climb on them.Mouse toys should be non-toxic before you give them to your kids.Look for things like glue, paint, or artificial food.
Step 2: There is an exercise wheel that you can use to get your mouse moving.
Purchase a solid wheel for your mice.It will help your mouse stay in shape.Since your mouse's can get stuck in the mesh, avoid plastic wheels.Make sure your wheel is far enough away from your living spaces that you won't be bothered by the mice, as they love to run at night.Make sure your mouse can reach the wheel if it is attached to the cage.Make sure that the mouse's back is straight when they run on the wheel. The wheel is too small if the mouse's back is curved.
Step 3: A wooden toy that encourages chewing will help with dental care.
Mice have teeth that never stop growing and they need to chew on things to keep this growth in check. You can buy wooden toys made of non-treated wood at a pet store or use small treated logs for a toy.
Step 4: Mental development can be encouraged with challenging toys.
Challenging toys, like home constructed mazes, help engage your mouse's mind and keep them active. There are toys that combine hunting and mental stimulation.Place a treat in the center of the maze if your mouse doesn't seem interested.
Step 5: Pick a toy that the mouse can carry.
Encouraging the natural trait of mice is always a good idea.Plastic balls are hard and hollow. If you use hard plastic, your mouse won't hurt itself.Don't use soft plastic since your mouse might chew it and swallow it.If you see chewed plastic, remove the toy from the cage.
Step 6: Make a teeter-totter for your mouse.
This is a great toy for your mouse to play with.Use non-toxic glue to stick a thin piece of cardboard on top of a cardboard toilet paper roll.Attach ladder rungs to the path with popsicle sticks or pieces of cardboard using non-toxic glue.Make sure your mice are able to climb on the top piece of cardboard without it falling off.
Step 7: To help your mice, make a treat parcel.
Cut a section of toilet paper roll. The roll should be blocked off by folding in the sides of the other end.Wrap a few of your mice's favorite treats in toilet paper, put them in the end of the roll, and close the other end.Your mouse will like opening the cardboard to get some treats. The toy allows your mice to use their natural fine motor skills and has a great reward at the end.
Step 8: Make a maze tunnel for your mice to play in.
These can be made with toilet paper rolls and scissors.Cut a circle in the middle of a toilet paper roll to fit another roll into it.Continue cutting holes and placing toilet paper rolls until you have a maze for your mouse to travel through. There are tunnels that form cool patterns, like squares or triangles.
