Because they're small, you can knit them quickly. To make the pants, knit 2 pieces of fabric in a stockinette stitch pattern and then seam them together at the sides.Since you'll make the waist with a double rib stitch, there's no need to mess with buttons or drawstrings. This project is great for beginners.
Step 1: The baby pants need a soft yarn.
Pick a skein of worsted weight yarn in any color. You can see worsted weight as afghan, aran, or medium-weight yarn.If you want the yarn to wash well, choose yarn that is soft enough for the baby. You can remember the washing instructions once you finish making the pants if you keep the label from the skein of yarn.
Step 2: Worsted weight yarn is used to make a slip.
Pull the yarn and twist it into a loop to form a slip knot.To slide your thumb and index finger through the loop, use 1 hand.Bring the yarn through the loop by pinching it.
Step 3: The slip knot should be on the knitting needles.
Attach the loop of yarn to the needle.Pull the yarn tail to tighten the loop. You can easily insert your needle into the stitch if you stop pulling when the knot is secure. If you accidentally pull too tightly and you can't insert the needle into the stitch, tug on the loop while you hold the knot. You can put the needle through the loosened stitch.
Step 4: Cast with 36 stitches.
One of the easiest ways for beginners to cast on is to knit a stitch. If you want to have 2 stitches on your left needle, instead of putting the right needle in the loop, insert the tip of the left one into it.Keep knitting stitches and place them on the left needle until you have 36 stitches on it.You will need an extra set of knitting needles for each pant leg.
Step 5: 13 rows of a basic 2 x 2 rib pattern are needed to create the waist.
Knit 2 stitches across the whole row for the rib.Turn the work and p2 across the next row when you reach the end of the first row. There are 13 rows in the rib stitch.
Step 6: There are 6 rows of the stockinette stitch pattern.
If you want to knit the first row of stockinette stitch, knit every stitch. If you want to make the next row, you have to purl every stitch. The next 4 rows can be worked by knitting the odd rows and purling the even rows. You will knit rows 1, 3, 5, and purl rows 2 and 4.
Step 7: An increasing row is needed for row 7.
Once you've made 6 stockinette stitch rows, knit 1 stitch and make 1 left stitch. There are 2 stitches left after k3 and m1L across the row.To finish the row, knit the last 2 stitches.Once you finish this row, you'll have 48 stitches on your needles.
Step 8: There are 22 more rows in the stockinette stitch pattern.
You can make row 8 of the stockinette stitch pattern by pinching the row after your increasing row.Continue knitting and purling for 21 more rows.Remember to knit the odd rows.
Step 9: Pass the remaining 24 stitches to a spare needle.
Pull 24 stitches to work the row where the legs split off. Each of the remaining 24 stitches should be put onto a spare US size 7 knitting needle. In order to make the right leg, you'll have to keep working the stitches.Don't use the spare needle just yet.Depending on what you want, you can use a spare standard or circular needle.
Step 10: Put a marker on the first stitch of the left leg.
Attach a marker to the first stitch you place on the spare needle. This will help you remember the beginning of the left leg.You can knit the stitches on your needles if you turn your work over.Attach a safety pin or small hair accessory to the stitch if you don't have a marker.
Step 11: The stockinette stitch is used for 44 rows.
After you've split them, knit across every stitch.Continue to work the stockinette pattern down the right leg.Remember to knit the odd rows. You will be working 24 stitches across each row instead of 48.
Step 12: There are 6 rows in the seed stitch pattern.
6 rows of seed stitch will give the pant a little texture near the bottom of the leg.K1, p1, across the entire first row of the seed stitch pattern. Then, p1, k1, across the second row of seed stitch.Work 4 more rows by alternating the stitches.
Step 13: Bind off the stitches on the right leg.
Bind off the stitches on your knitting needles once you've made the right leg.You don't have to bind the stitches off using the seed stitch pattern if you bind them off knitwise or purlwise.Tie off the last stitch and leave a yarn tail that's about 15 cm long.
Step 14: The left leg can be worked using the stockinette and seed stitch patterns.
Pull the stitches from the row by going back to the marker. You can repeat the pattern that you used for the right leg.Stockinette make 6 rows in the seed stitch pattern.Tie a knot to secure the last stitch after you bind off the stitches of the left leg.If you put the left leg stitches on a circular needle, you should slide them back onto your knitting needles. You can use the tail to join the leg pieces if you leave it 15 inches long.
Step 15: You can duplicate the fabric piece you just made.
If you've completed 1 whole fabric piece that has 2 legs, you can repeat the steps to make an identical piece.Since you didn't sew them in the round, you'll sew the sides together to form the pants. When working the second piece, use the same yarn and needles as the first.
Step 16: Attach the tapestry needle with the pants pieces side by side.
The right sides face up and 2 of the legs touch the fabric.Next, thread a tapestry needle with a long yarn tail at the bottom of the pant leg.You can use a darning needle instead of a tapestry needle.
Step 17: To sew the sides of the pants, use the mattress stitch.
The needle should be inserted into the opposite stitch on the fabric.Pull the pieces together. The needle should be between the horizontal bar of the stitches.Pull again when you get to the end of the piece.Once you reach the top of the pants, weave in the tail. The stockinette stitch pattern can be seamed using the mattress stitch.
Step 18: Stitch the other side of the legs by folding the pants and mattress.
The seamed side of the pants should be on the right side if you fold them.Attach your needle to the other side of the pants.Work all the way up to the waist from the bottom of the pant legs.Wrap the yarn around the tail.
Step 19: To finish the pants, sew together the inner legs.
To sew the inner legs together, use the mattress stitch. This forms the crotch of the pants as well.To finish the pants, weave in the ends.
