Before you can take the hamsters out of their cage, you have to tame them. You have to create a trusting bond with your hamster to tango.Older hamsters take longer to tame than younger ones. You need to be consistent and patient.
Step 1: A balanced diet should be fed.
Rodent chow, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds are included in the diet. All the time, there should be clean water and chow. The water bottle should be attached to the tube. There are recommended fruits and vegetables.A fresh supply is provided every 2 or 3 days.Eaten food must be removed daily.Don't give your hamster chocolate, candy, onions, or any other junk food. You should refill the water bottle every day. It's a good idea to take your hamster to the vet every year.
Step 2: A house is in a cage.
Your hamster can live in a wire cage or aquarium with a mesh top.Line the cage with hay, aspen, or corn cob. There should be an exercise wheel, cardboard tubes, and a piece of wood in the cage.Warm soapy water can be used to clean the cage.Every day, clean bedding and droppings.
Step 3: Allow your hamster to get used to its environment.
Going to a new home is not easy.New sounds and sights can be overwhelming.Allow your hamster to settle in for a few days. When you feed your hamster, talk to him in a calm voice. He will get used to the sound of your voice.Talking when you provide treats helps your hamster associate your voice with something good.
Step 4: Observe your pet.
Hamsters are nocturnal animals. They are active at night and sleep during the day. This is the best time to schedule your taming sessions if you notice that your hamster is playing, stretching, eating, or grooming.Your hamster is more likely to bite you if you wake him up during the day.If you work around your hamster's sleeping schedule, your taming sessions will be more successful.
Step 5: Something smells like you, so put it in the cage.
Take a piece of tissue or toilet paper and put it in your shirt for a few hours.Place the paper in the cage. You can put the sock in the cage if you wear a shirt or waistband. There is a strong sense of smell in hamsters. They rely on their nose to tell them what's going on.The scent of the items you put in the cage should be consistent.Don't try out any new detergents or perfumes during this time.
Step 6: You can sit next to the cage.
When your hamster is awake, sit next to the cage and talk to him.The hamster is comfortable with you if he eats, drinks, and plays in front of you.During this time, you can read a book or sing to your hamster.
Step 7: Every day you should spend time with your hamster.
10 minutes a day is all you need to tame your hamster.Shoot for every other day if you can't tame him.The more time you spend with him, the better. He will get worse if you take a long break or go on vacation. You might have to go back to some of the earlier steps instead of picking up where you left off.Take care of your hamster around the same time each day. This will make a routine for the two of you.
Step 8: Be patient.
Your hamster may have been forgotten because he is older. It takes time to build trust. It will take a long time to tame him.The amount of time it takes to tame your hamster will vary.It depends on how much time you spend with the hamster. It could take a long time to tame him.If you are consistent and patient, most hamsters will come around.
Step 9: Don't punish your hamster.
You shouldn't physically punish your pet.Don't flick him or touch his nose.Blow in his face if he nibbles. You can use a serious tone to tell him no.Fear is created by physical punishment. You may not be able to tame your hamster if he is afraid of you.
Step 10: You can wash your hands with soap.
Hamsters don't have a good sense of sight.Your hamster will bite you if your hand smells like food.Your hamster may think you are in danger if he smells like your hand.It is the best soap to use.If you use scented soap, use the same soap each time.
Step 11: There is a treat in the cage.
You can leave a treat in the cage. When your hamster comes to get the treats, he may investigate your hand.Don't try to pet him at this time.Pay attention to how your hamster responds. When you can move on to the next stage, his behavior will let you know.Your hamster is still afraid if he runs away, defecates, or flattens himself close to the floor. If he is frightened, place the treat in the cage and try again. If you try to work with your hamster when he is stressed, he will get sick and it will be harder to tame him.
Step 12: The treat should be in your hand.
If your hamster is comfortable with your hand, leave the treat in it and wait for the hamster to come to it.Don't try to wiggle your fingers. The hamster shouldn't have to climb onto your hand to get the treat. He should be able to reach the treat with his paw.
Step 13: Allow your hamster to eat the treat.
Your hamster will start to eat from the palm of your hand when he is ready. To pet his body, use your other hand. When petting, use one of your fingers. He shouldn't be petted on his head. This will make him feel worse.Allow your hamster to control the level interaction.Don't force him to come to you or eat from your hands. He will be moving at his own pace.
Step 14: The hamster needs to be held in the palm of your hand.
Put your hand in the cage and let the hamster walk into it.Place your other hand on top of the hamster to create a little cave once he is in the palm of your hand.He needs to make sure his head is sticking out. While he is in his cage, hold the hamster a few inches above the ground.Pick him up with your hands. When he's ready, allow him to walk into your hands.Don't approach your pet from behind. This will scare him because he can't see you.At first, your hamster may try to jump out of your hands.Your hamster might urinate because he is nervous.Do not get upset with him.Say, "It's ok" when you talk to him.Place him back in his cage and try again later.
Step 15: There is a hamster outside of his cage.
Try to keep your hamster outside of the cage once you have held him in it a few times.Take the hamster to your chest using the cave method.Next to your chest, your hamster will feel safer. If he falls, hold him over your lap or near the floor.Hamsters can suffer serious injuries when they fall.If he gets away, try this in a room that doesn't have a lot of hiding places.Make sure there are no other pets in the room.Remember to keep an eye on how your hamster responds. If he growls or grinds his teeth, put him back in his cage and leave him alone.
Step 16: Put a tub or playpen in it.
Allow your hamster to get used to you.Plug the drain and place a blanket or towel in the tub.You can put your hamster in the playpen or bathtub.Allow your hamster to explore the new space if you bring some treats. If you want to create a playpen, sit across from another person and make a barrier with your legs. The hamster should be placed in the middle so he can move around.A kiddie pool can be used as a playpen.
