It is possible to prevent third parties from stealing your bandwidth, conduct illegal activity over your network, and steal your personal information by setting up security for your Linksys routers.A wireless security password, a wireless media access control (MAC) filter, and a service set identification (SSID) broadcast can be used to secure a Linksys routers.
Step 1: You can open an Internet browser session on your computer.
Step 2: Go to the address bar of the internet browser and type in your router's address.
Unless you have changed the address at a previous point in time, it will be 192.168.1.1.
Step 3: At the login prompt, enter your password and usernames.
You can go to the home screen of the setup page.If you haven't changed the criteria from the original settings, leave the usernames blank and type admin into the password field.If this doesn't work, you can enter the root and admin passwords.
Step 4: Click on theWireless tab, then click onWireless Security.
Step 5: The radio button is next to theConfiguration View.
Step 6: Select a security mode from the menu.
WEP is the most basic level of security, with WPA2 Personal being the strongest security setting.
Step 7: Next tophrase, enter a password of your choice.
Your password has to be at least 8 characters long.

Step 16: Click on the menu next to "Sort By" to find the address.
There is a table that displays various address fields.
Step 17: The information for each computer can be entered into the MAC Address table in the "Wireless Client List" window.
You will have to enter the name of each computer that you want to give access to, as well as the address of its modem and interface type.
Step 18: To add each computer to the list of allowed devices, click on the Add button.
Step 19: Click on the settings you want to save.
The computers and devices you have specified will be the only ones allowed access to your Linksys routers.

Step 23: In the setup menu, click on "Wireless".

Step 25: Click on it to save the settings.
When scanning for wireless networks, other users near your physical location will not have the ability to detect your router.
