You can get a memory foam mattress delivered right to your door, compressed and rolled up inside a box.The mattress became a full-sized mattress when it was removed from the box.If you need to move your memory foam mattress, you might be wondering if it is possible to roll it back up again so it can fit in your car.Good news, you can use a mattress bag and a vacuum to compress the mattress.
Step 1: The bedding needs to be removed from your mattress.
Before you roll your mattress, take the blankets, sheets, and mattress pads off. It's a good idea to remove the mattress topper from your bed as well. You have to separate your bedding from your mattress. If you have a foam mattress, the same process can be used to roll it.If you wash everything that was on your bed, you will have fresh bedding when you get back to your house.
Step 2: The bag should be in the correct size.
You can buy a heavy plastic mattress bag from a variety of stores.Make sure you get the correct size for your mattress. If you have a queen-sized mattress, make sure you get a big bag.If you can't find a bag that's the same size as your mattress, buy a bigger one.
Step 3: Put your mattress into the bag.
The top or bottom of your mattress should be lined with the open end of the plastic mattress bag.Pull the bag along the length of the mattress until it's completely inside. If you have a big mattress, you may need help with this step. The mattress bag can be slid onto the mattress from above if you are able to stand it up.
Step 4: The mattress bag should be sealed with tape.
The open end of the mattress bag should be sealed with tape.If there are any other holes in the mattress bag, use tape to cover them.If the bag is larger than the mattress, fold the excess plastic so it is flush with the bed and tape the plastic to keep it safe.If you want your vacuum hose to fit, leave a hole in the mattress bag.The mattress bag can be closed with packing tape or duct tape. You don't have to use tape with some plastic mattress bags.
Step 5: Put the vacuum hose in the mattress bag.
You can use the open-ended hose of the vacuum if you adjust it.Dust or dirt can be removed from the end of the hose with a damp cloth.Put the end of the hose into the hole you left in the mattress bag and seal it with tape.If you leave a hole in the mattress bag, you can use a one-way vacuum value. If you prefer to use a valve, you can buy a vacuum storage bag from a department store or online.Put that valve in the mattress bag.You can either cut a new hole for the valve or attach it to a hole in the bag.
Step 6: Use your vacuum to get as much air out of your mattress as you can.
Leave the vacuum on when you turn it on.Depending on the size of your mattress and the strength of the vacuum, this step may take several minutes.Use your hands to press down on the mattress to speed up the process. If you notice any holes in the bag at this point, you can use tape to cover them and keep it as tight as possible.
Step 7: To start the roll, hold the mattress at one end.
If it is a queen or king-sized mattress, you will need the help of a friend to roll it.The end of the mattress is opposite the vacuum. To roll the mattress, use your hands to press down on the end of it.Rolling the mattress is similar to rolling a sleeping bag.Rolling the mattress forwards will require you to keep it compressed.
Step 8: Place the mattress in the hole where the vacuum is.
Roll the mattress from one side to the other. You want to keep pushing down on the mattress as you roll it so that you can get it as compressed as possible. The vacuum is attached to the opposite end of the mattress. The vacuum should be left on the entire time you roll the mattress. The vacuum will keep sucking out air from inside the bag.
Step 9: The mattress should be secured with plenty of tape.
The mattress will want to be rolled and flattened. You will need a lot of tape to secure the mattress in a roll.Your friend should hold the mattress in its roll while you tape it.If you want to cover the whole width of the mattress roll, go around and around it with the tape. You can use straps to secure your mattress.Pull the strap tight from the top using the metal tool attached to it.On the other side of the mattress roll, repeat.
