A roller coaster is the fastest way to get your blood pumping. If you've never ridden a roller coaster, getting over the nerves can be intimidating, but learning a bit about the different types of roller coasters and what to expect out of your ride can make the whole thing a lot less scary. It should be fun.If you want to ride a roller coaster, you can learn how to stay safe and have a great time. You can see Step 1 for more information.
Step 1: There are different styles of roller coasters.
It's important to know what type of roller coaster experience you want before you ride it.Some riders prefer old-school wooden coasters for a vintage feel, while others prefer newer, super-fast, upside-down behemoths to test their mettle. It's good to have some idea of what to expect from different types of coasters. The oldest and most classic types of coasters are the ones you'll want to start on.The chain-lift mechanism allows gravity to force the cars through the rest of the turns and valleys at high speed. The ride is fun and bumpy. These usually don't go down.Classic wooden coasters include the Texas Giant, American Eagle, and the Beast at King's Island. It's a common name for wooden coasters. The complex steel tracks feature smooth rides and more flexibility, as well as the ability to inverted the riders, incorporating loops, corkscrews, and all kinds of other exciting motions.Steel coasters include the classic Kingda Ka, Millennium Force, Steel Dragon 2000 and the Storm Coaster.
Step 2: There are different types of seats on coasters.
Some roller coasters are more comfortable for first time riders than others.Knowing about the different types will help you pick the right one.Traditional seated car roller coasters are the best way to get an introduction to the ride for beginners. They are comfortable, safe, and simple. While standing coasters lock the riders in place in an upright position, floorless coasters allow the rider's legs to hang free, mimicking an intense falling experience.Wing coasters feature two cars that extend on either side of the track, giving your individual car the impression of floating, while suspended coasters are able to swing back and forth as the coaster goes around bends.
Step 3: Start with a small coaster.
If you're new to roller coasters, a smaller version of a coaster is the best way to get your sea legs. There are different types of roller coasters at most parks.Smaller coasters will usually have less-intense drops, no loops, and will still give you a good thrill. The shorter lines give you less time to be nervous. It might be better to jump in the deep end and ride an intense roller coaster in order to get it over with. You don't need to be afraid anymore if you know you've been through the wild.
Step 4: You have to meet the height and weight requirements.
Roller coasters should have a minimum height requirement for all riders at the beginning. To ensure the safety of all the riders, this isn't to punish enthusiastic kids who want to ride the big rides. The seats and safety harnesses need to be big enough to fit everyone, so kids and short people are at risk of slipping through the harnesses.Wait in line if you get past the height requirement. Before you jump in the car, the park employees will measure you with a height stick and send you off if you don't meet the mark.It would be bad to wait for two hours just to get rejected. There are warnings that pregnant rides, riders with heart conditions, and other physical ailments should not ride certain roller coasters. The warnings will be next to the height requirement at the beginning of the line.If you have concerns about your health, don't ride.
Step 5: Pick a roller coaster with a manageable line.
One way to pick a roller coaster is to not have a long line.If you want to ride a roller coaster, it's important to manage your time so that you don't end up waiting more than two or three hours. It could be worth it to wait several hours for a big one, or you could spend your time on other rides.Something to do in line, or some friends to talk with, is what you should bring.Waiting that long can be boring, and might be more fun with a book or some friends. You should be respectful and polite to everyone else in the line.Fast passes allow you to show up to a ride at a designated time, skip the line, and hop on the ride. The passes are more expensive than a regular ticket, but they allow you to use your time more efficiently.
Step 6: Pick a seat.
Once you get to the end of a roller coaster, the line will split and you will have to line up for different seats.Pick the row you want to ride in and get in the line. You can choose any of the cars for your first ride. Some people love the front for the view, while others like the back for what is called the "goat effect," a phenomenon named after a roller coaster at Disneyland. The g-forces on the riders are stronger at the back of the cars making the experience more intense. You can get on the ride the fastest if you don't have much of an opinion.Less waiting, less nerves, more fun.
Step 7: Take a ride on an empty stomach.
Roller coasters can make some people puke and the excitement of the park and giant elephant ears and turkey legs can cause some riders to forget. The feeling of weightlessness can cause nausea in some riders, and the g-forces on certain coasters are strong. If you have a lot of Dippin' Dots, it might end up all over the car behind you.Don't eat before riding a coaster. To reward yourself for your bravery, treat yourself to something after you ride. It's a good idea to go to the bathroom before getting in line. You don't want to wait around for 2 hours to get on the ride and find out you have to go right away.It could get ugly.
Step 8: Take a ride on the roller coaster train.
Most roller coasters have a metal harness that you can pull down and lock into place. If you can't figure it out, a ride employee will walk down the cars and tug on your harness to make sure you're ready for the ride.Carefully listen to the instructions given by the employees or the PA speakers. They will not allow you to leave without checking your safety belt.If you have trouble figuring out your seat or safety lock, just ask for assistance from the employee. The safety harnesses are usually locked in by the park employees.Inform the park employee if you suspect something is wrong with your safety harness.Make sure you are comfortable.Roller coasters are fun because you'll get bumped around in your seat. The bumps can be pretty annoying if you don't feel comfortable in the seat.It is possible that it will be a rough ride.If your seat is not comfortable, talk to a ride employee or restate yourself before the harness is locked in.
Step 9: There are loose items of clothing.
Before you ride a roller coaster, it's a good idea to keep your stuff in a bag.It can be difficult to get back sandals, hats, glasses, and necklaces if you misplace them along the way on a roller coaster. You should always keep your glasses in your pocket. It's a good idea to think about this before you get to the seat.If you're wearing a baseball cap, it's a good idea to put it in a cargo pocket, remove it and hold it, or leave it with someone on the ground.
Step 10: Relax from time to time.
The nerves will start to kick in when you're sitting and waiting. It's common to start suspecting that something is wrong if you've never ridden before.Everything is normal.Try to remain calm and enjoy the thrill.Roller coasters are very reliable.Don't let go unless you are comfortable. Most roller coasters have small hand- grips that can help to relieve stress and make you feel more in control of the situation.Enjoy the time and have fun! After the ride starts, don't wiggle around or struggle with the harness.Several people will be injured on roller coasters in a year.300 million people ride roller coasters safely each year. The majority of injuries are the result of rider error and rule breaking, messing with the harnesses, or sneaking onto the ride against the rules. You will be fine if you sit calmly and follow the rules.
Step 11: It's always a good idea to ride with friends.
There is a great communal experience with roller coasters. The ride on an empty car would be dull.Listening to everyone laugh, scream, shout funny comments, and go through the roller coaster together is one of the most fun things about it.If you're with friends at the park, riding a roller coaster can be a lot of fun.Friends can help keep the experience light. If you're too busy goofing off with your friends, you won't have to worry about waiting in line.Just have fun.Don't get pressured to ride roller coasters by your friends. If you don't want to ride on the seven-looper with your friends, go on other rides and meet up later.
Step 12: Get over the first hill.
Roller coasters have one thing in common, a long, slow build up to the first hill and drop. The rest of the ride is fast and fun if you get the opening drop out of your way. You'll be in for a treat if you just get that out of the way.The pull up to the first drop is the scariest part of the ride because nothing is actually happening and it's painfully slow. For the anticipation it builds try to enjoy it.It'll be over soon.If you can't see what's coming up, it makes it a little more nauseating.Try to keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings. It will be more enjoyable that way.
Step 13: There was a loud yell.
A lot of people will start shouting when you pass over the first big hill.Join them. When you ride a roller coaster, you get the chance to let loose and have a lot of fun. It's a great time to let out a scream. It's true that screaming in a group can cause the release of a hormone that calms the body.screaming can calm you down and make you feel good.
Step 14: Find out if some coasters move forward or backward.
You've gotten over your first coaster. The real fun starts now. Most people who start to ride coasters want to get back in line as soon as possible. The rush from a roller coaster is unlike anything else in the world. What is better? You just rode a roller coaster. If you like it, you can experience it for the first time all over again.A lot of roller coasters will run forward for most of the day.Go to the park near the front of the line or look at the track to see if they're running backwards. The roller coasters use two tracks that run at the same time.A classic example of a roller coaster classic is The Racer at King's Island.
Step 15: Try a roller coaster that is launched.
It is possible to launch a coaster from a standing position into a fast speed of up to 80 mph, with little time to prepare. These will corkscrew and go upside down. The most famous launched coaster is Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure.
Step 16: You can try a coaster that goes upside down.
Next challenge?A loop. The first time you go upside down on a roller coaster is a big moment for a lot of people, but it seems way more intimidating than it really is.For a second, you'll be weightless.Roller coasters with loops are often long and elaborate, with lots of crazy maneuvers. If you've ridden a traditional roller coaster, you should increase the ante.It isn't the drops or the nausea that rattles most people, it's being jostled around. It's not something that should deter you from taking a ride on a roller coaster, doing loops is one of the nicer parts of riding one.
Step 17: Try to ride every roller coaster.
Is the theme park the Olympics? One day, riding every coaster. It's possible if you break up your time and are willing to wait in long lines.Going about your mission with some planning is likely to help. You might become a full-blown coaster junkie by the end.If you want to make it, try to hit the longer lines earlier in the day and make sure you have enough time. The rides that are less popular will be open in the afternoon.
Step 18: Take a look at the most intense coasters.
If you want to become a full-blown roller coaster junkie, it's time to check out the biggest and baddest coasters in the world. There are some roller coasters that are the most intense, fastest, highest, and longest.
