How to remove "WD unlocker"?
I bought a 320GB passport drive a few days ago so I could use it to take some files to school and print them, however I am having a problem, when I try to plug the drive into the computers at school it doesn't let me, the techs at the computer
I found a solution that said I should install the wd software and disabling the virtual disc thing, but that only works on my computer at home. The same thing happens when I drive to school.
The Unlocker VCD is hidden unless you set a password, and hides again when you remove it, but it can't be removed from the drive.
You can remove the password from the drive if the school PC won't allow the application to run.
If you install the patch to hide the VCD, it should stay hidden for all the devices on the drive. The hidden Smartware VCD doesn't show up on the PC when plugged into the server or Mrs. RG's PC.
It is more likely that it is the SES driver who is blocking the installation. You should be able to skip the SES driver if you don't have a password. If you have a password set, you won't be able to unlocked the drive without installing the SES driver, just remove the password and try again.
I use the My Book essentials for home use and always have thewdunlocker on my desktop. It comes back if I unmount it.I found an article that talked about removing it, but it didn't work.I was told that I have the "Mini" Virtual CD, and there is no way to stop it.As long as the drive is connected to my computer, it will always be there.I was forced to install the Smartware against my will, but they had an option to hide the Virtual CD temporarily, so I had to restart my computer.I put an icon on my task bar when I had theWD SmartWare running on the computer.I think this is worse because their software is always running on my computer and I will never use it.When I unmount the WD Unlocker VCD, it doesn't remount after I uninstall the Smartware. The icon of my drive was also changed.Since it changed the behavior after uninstall, I'm left wondering what's left on my system. The Tier II tech support told me that there were some products that didn't have Smartware on them, but none of them were in the 3 terabytes size.I hope that the software is not a root kit. After this last purchase, I was very disappointed with Western Digital because I am very protective of what gets installed and changed on my laptop.
The unlocker will not appear if you choose not to password protect the drive. The same thing should happen if the password protection is removed. You probably had a bad drive.
A rootkit hides its existence.Applications that put a shortcut on your desktop and things in the taskbar, even if they were malicious, can't possibly be rootkits.
If you don't want to buy a drive that needs support applications installed to function properly, then it's not worth it.
Wizer points out that you can buy a 3 terabytes of elements at thelmgtfy.com.
Actually.I don't understand why people are saying not to set a password.I don't have a password, but it still appears.
There is an HPA set in the DCO.The HPA is a claimed portion of the drive's space that is hidden from the operating system so that it can only see a certain number of sectors.
There is a way to shut the HPA down.I don't know how.I know that Linux has a tool called dd that can shut the HPA off.I am not sure about windows.I would like to know.
I want to know if there is a tool they have to get rid of, my old passport did not have the tool, and my new one does, so I think it shouldn't.
I am not sure if the program you boot from a CD called Hdat2 has the ability to disabling the HPA.I don't want to break my drive to get back some of the space I lost.
