One of the most popular door locksets on the market is the kieset key-in-knob lockset.This guide will show you how to re-key them on your own.

Many of the techniques contained within this guide can be applied to other brands and door lock models as well.

Remove the lockset from the door.Set aside the interior half of the lockset.

The driver bar is on the back of the lockset.The post is hollow on the end and protrudes from the back of the lock.

The cylinder removal tool can be inserted into the end of the driver bar.

There is a tab just above one of the threaded posts underneath the driver bar.

While removing the driver bar, depress the tab from step 2 using the edge of the cylinder removal tool.

The driver bar should be pulled out by hand.Here are a few tips if it doesn't come out easily.

Make sure the tab in step 1 is completely vertical and pointing towards the threaded cylinders.The driver bar can't be removed because it can shift out of position.

If you want the keyway to face the ceiling, you need to rotation the entire assembly 180 degrees.The entire lockset should be wiggled while depressing the tab.The driver bar should come out.

Remove the driver bar and insert the cylinder removal tool into the back of the lock.

The cylinder removal tool should be pushed into the back of the lock.

Remove the c-clip and use the key that operates the lock to turn the cylinder plug 90 degrees.

Dump the bottom pins out of the plug and replace them with the appropriate sized pins for the new key.

Taking care to make sure the plug doesn't come out of the cylinder is what you should do if you want to ensure proper operation.
