How To Manage Your Public Profile Information on Goodreads
You might not know that you can set up a profile on Goodreads, even if you've been on the site for a while.You can show more about yourself on your own profile page.You can learn how to manage your public information on Goodreads.
Step 1: Go to the website and log in.
Step 2: Go to your page.
Click on your profile icon to view it.Your profile page will be given by this.One more step is required to edit your profile.
Step 3: Go to the "(edit profile)" link.
Near the top of the page is a navigation bar with your name next to it.If you click this link, you will be taken to your profile data page.
Step 4: You can fill in the name fields.
Although the First name field is mandatory for all situations, they also include spots for your middle name and last name, if you'd like to give them out to the public or people who are friends with you on Goodreads.
Step 5: You can choose how your name is displayed.
There are two options in the name drop-down box.If you fill out only your first name field, the second one won't be able to be displayed at all.If you choose to show your middle name, there will be an additional field in the drop down that will list your first, middle, and last names.
Step 6: There are two options below the "show my last name to" label.
"Friends" and " Anyone (including search engines)" are your choices.You have to choose who you want to see this data, but most people want it to be just friends.
Step 7: You can create a username.
It's helpful for people who want to give out their own usernames on their page.Go to the "User Name" field and type in your name.
Step 8: A user image should be included.
If you have a picture of yourself reading, put it in the insert.Make sure you can access the picture on your computer, even if it's from a digital camera, a phone, or some other device.If you can't find an image of yourself to use, try freely licensed images, like ones under appropriate Creative Commons licenses.If you have to, make sure you stick to the licensing requirements.
Step 9: There is a drop-down box where you can select your gender.
Step 10: The zip code field has a drop-down box below it.
The city and state box will be hidden if they are set to United States.
Step 11: In the zip code field, type in your zip-code.
Zip codes in the US are the only ones that work.
Step 12: You can choose the audience to which your location is shown.
You have three options."Everyone" will show your location to everyone who has your custom personalized URL, "Friends" is going to give out this information to only the friends you've made on Goodreads, and "No one" wants you to know.
Step 13: If you want, you can fill out the date of birth.
The age will be determined by the date you've filled in, within these boxes of your date of birth.The Goodreads system keeps your profile private if you are under 18.To protect your privacy, this information is not given to those who don't have your URL.
Step 14: The privacy drop-down needs to be filled out.
You can choose which items to show to which part of your audience with the age and birthday privacy drop-down.
Step 15: If you want to share your website with the world, you need to fill out the "My Web site" form.
Step 16: The "My Interests" field is where you can type in your interests in life.
You can follow each term with a space.
Step 17: Tell us about the types of books you'd like to read.
What kind of books do you like to read?The box has a space and a colon.
Step 18: You can describe yourself in the "About Me" section.
What you share is up to you!You can use italics to refer to books.
Step 19: Click the button to save your work.
Step 20: Once you're done with this, you can preview your changes.
