I made spiced orange pomander balls while listening to an audio book and tipped a tin of cloves into bowls.I remember making this as a child, sitting next to the wood fire, and engrossed with a story tape on cassette.

Last year we did pomanders for gifts. The ones with a lot of holes and cloves didn't go rancid. When it comes to cloves, more is better. We loved them and so did our friends and family. The small oranges are better for younger kids who don't have the patience for the large oranges with many cloves.
Help!70 pomanders were made for the old folks Christmas party. How can we stop them from getting moldy? How do you get orris root to stick? It looked messy when I tried it alone.Thank you for any advice!Micki is in a mess.?
Put them in a paper bag with orris root and cinnamon and shake. The pomanders with the cinnamon and sandalwood oil will help with mold.
That is it!My pomanders grew moldy because of that.My only successful pomander was my introduction to them. These were gifts to bring home to our parents when I was a young girl.I made the last one in their closet and it smelled wonderful and dried out perfectly.I was cheap when I did them on my own as an adult, but I understand why they didn't dry as there was not enough holes for the water to escape. These are great hung in a closet, on a Christmas tree, over a doorway, and a centerpiece bowl for Thanksgiving or Christmas. When I don't have much to spend but want something special, the frugal nature of Orange + Clove appeals to me.
You are gorgeous, Aimee!I have wanted to make these ever since I saw them in a photo.Thank you for the how to!
We are making these today.Since our car is in the shop, we are having an unofficial snow day.The to-do list includes more sledding, wrapping presents, holiday baking and pomanders. Thanks for the inspiration!
What a brilliant idea!It looks like Christmas and I can smell it.I wish I had read this before the holiday season because I don't think I'll remember next year. Thanks for sharing.
It's not necessary to buy orris root to preserve the orange. The same thing will happen with cinnamon powder.
I was going to search online for orris root powder, but Rick said it did the same job.I love the smell of cinnamon and will make my gift from this Spice if it performs well.It is so easy to find, thanks to Alison Paris.
We never made these, but they look pretty and sound great, thanks so much for the recipe and the Post, I will definitely check it out!
When their mothers were young, we made Pomaranders for them.Christmas projects are great. They are called Christmas.
I made these with my grandsons when they were small and he asked if we could make some for her to give her friends for Christmas. When I was in Girl Scouts, we almost always used orris root, but one year we tried "pumpkin pie spice" to roll them in and let them dry.Substitute!I enjoyed reading about them again.Thanks.
If you mix the cinnamon and orris root powder in a paper bag, add the Orange and shake it up, you can use them in your closets and drawers.
We had an orange in our stocking. It was told that fresh fruit was a luxury in the past.An orange pomander will be the last item in their stockings. It took me 3 hours to cover the entire orange.I am thoroughly enjoying the project.
I used to make these when I was a child.A nice ribbon was put around the orange snd to secure the tulle at the top of the closet.I gave a few gifts. Some good memories were brought back by you.
I have made these every year since I was 5 and always used the firmest oranges. If you screw in and pull out the holes, you can see the jagged edge of the clove. They dry better with a lot of cloves.
We make them every year and so far this year I have made 20 wonderful Gifts, if you cover the whole orange they dry much better, I use string to hang and different colour syle ribbons to decorate my girls love making them even tho my eldest has moved out has a baby
