How to make mason jar soap dispensers that glow in the dark.

The first step is to remove the pump from the soap bottle.Make a mark in the center of the jar by putting the lid on it.Place a small screwdriver on your centered mark and use a hammer to tap it until it pierces through the lid.Continue making holes around the center until you find a hole large enough to fit the pump inside.

There is a mason jar pin holder in my sewing area.My mother-in-law has big old fashioned mason jars in her kitchen. It was a great job on yours.

This should be pinned! Will have to make them for my bathroom and kitchen.Lora, thanks for sharing your tips.

I have a lot of jars at home.Definitely doing this with some of them. Thanks for the directions.

These are very cute.Who doesn't love jars?I picked up 4 small ones at the store.I love them! This idea is definitely going to be used. Thanks!Great job.

I would love to make some of these and have the mason jars and soap dispensers with me.Thank you for giving feedback on both methods.I feel like I'm ready to tackle this project now..

I love the look of them. You tried both methods.I wouldn't have thought of method #1.Glad to know that method #2 is easy and sturdy.

Cute!I want to try them out for myself, but haven't gotten around to it yet.I think I should get one of those.

Great lesson.I have to try.Gina thanks for the hard work on this!

I will definitely try myself. It is a great idea and I am a new follower of yours.

This is wonderful!I have wanted to make one of these myself for a while, but have not been able to.Your photos are great, I will soon.I have no excuse now.Your website is bright and cheery.I am following you through Friend Connect.Have a great day!Email protected, http://www.idreamofjeannedesigns.com

The featured supply this week is mason jars. The project would fit in perfectly.I would love for you to link it up here.

I love it!I was wondering how I could make a mason jar soap bottle out of what I already have.I think I will make one this weekend. There is a party going on right now.I am sure my followers would like to see what you created, so I would love to link you up.Hope to see you soon!

What a great post. The crazy thing is I didn't see your post.My viewers can't wait to see it.I did the second method.I was able to hole perfectly snug so no glue was needed.I was a little worried to glue it because I wanted to change it out.It was the same metallic color as the lid of a mason jar, and I love it.This project looks like it will take me a few minutes.

I linked your mason jar hand soap post to my page to show method number one. Thanks a lot. There is a website called what thekeckisgoingon.blogspot.com.

Great job!You have been featured at a store.I'm happy! You deserve it, come on over and grab your featured button.

This is what I was looking for.I will use them to give out Sunscreen at my outdoor wedding.

We are focused on mason jar crafts and ideas this week, Alice, so I would love for you to link up at the Mommy Archive.

Does the glue hold the jar together?I did method 2 with no glue and the jar rusted.

Hello,Amanda!I have not had a problem with my lid rusting since I painted it.I would paint it again.Yours rusted, so sorry!!

If you don't want to spray paint, do they make a plastic insert for mason jars? You may be able to fit the pump in with a hole in the lid.

How about cutting out the metal lid and putting it in a plastic container?Put the white side up and drill a hole.

Thank you for the idea.I would suggest a small flathead screwdriver or chisel to go through the lid.A set of scissors can cut through a lid.

I love this idea.I need soap outside, I live on a farm, and I always need to wash my hands at the barn.!

I sanded the lid off of the clean jar that I used to make this. When the silver lid rusted, I was happy.

Wow!We made these in Girl Scouts many, many moons ago.I had forgotten about them until today. This is perfect because I am trying to find something different to make for Christmas gifts.I wanted to make a gift set of empty bottles, so I painted them all white, enclosed homemade sticker labels, and made a blank one.

The homemade hand soap that was sprayed black was found in the link on how to make it.I would like to do that.Is there anything I need to know?

Nancy!I sprayed the jars with oil rubbed bronze spray paint and it worked great. If you want to protect the paint, I would recommend spraying the lids with a metal primer first, and then applying a clear sealer. These little soap dispensers will make you smile.

Hi!I love your writing. These are mason jar dispensers.I would buy 6 of these if you sold them.I will have to make them myself since you don't.Thanks for the great tips.I'm thinking of putting a chalkboard label on the things I put in my bathroom so that my guests can distinguish between the two. Thanks for the inspiration!!

Hello Sarah! You are very sweet.I am glad you love these jars as much as I do.These would be adorable with chalkboard labels. Thanks for stopping by!

I received these as a gift and have been using them. There is a problem with dawn dish soap leaking around the pump.Any suggestions?

Hi Tiffany!A nice gift!I haven't had any leaking issues with the ones I made.Is the pump set in the lid?Add a layer of waterproof glue around the pump under the lid to see if it helps.

Thanks for posting that detail.I have been wanting to make one for a long time but the previous instructions made it look a bit difficult.

I would like to know what brand of soap dispensers you purchased in order to get the pump part. Thanks!

I should have said that my question was about the larger bottle of body wash with a pump.

Would either of these work for hand soap?Does that need a tighter seal? Thanks!

I think it would work with the same process if I tried one with foaming hand soap. You should be good to go if you use a foam pump. You have to let me know how it goes.

You are so welcome! It was a simple process.I believe I used a generic brand of soap and a large bottle of body wash.Maybe Dove brand?I walked around Walmart until I found a size that I liked.Best of luck!

The dispensers in my store are starting to rust and leave rings on my counter.I think I have found a replacement. Most things you find in a bathroom are covered in glass.I might be able to reuse the pump if I use method 2.

I want to know what kind of dish soap is in your dispensers.I like the blue color. Thanks for sharing, it was a great idea and beautiful.

I wish I could remember.I believe the blue was a hand soap and the larger jar was the dish soap.I couldn't help more.

I went to the hobby lobby and bought two jars.I got them for 50 off.I need some glue.I will use them for his and her hair care. It's cute and practical.

I had to make it.I began directly. It is beautiful.I have one in the bathroom.I'm looking forward to making another one.Thank you for sharing!

I found 4 blue mason jars with zinc lids at a flea market but wasn't sure what to do with them.I really like this idea.Thank you so much!

Thanks for sharing!I love making my own hair product, and would prefer to keep it in a container like this one.The heat of the shower will cause the estrogenic compounds in the plastic containers to get into the homemade hair product. There is a legitimate concern about glass in the shower. If anyone knows how to make a mason jar wrap, it would protect it from shattering if it fell.I think of the foam or rubber soda can holders that people use to keep cans of soda cold.I apologize if there is a more correct name for such items. If someone knows where to get that for mason jars, or if they want to come up with a creative way to make them, please share!

Who knew those soda can holders were called "coozies" or "koozies"?If I can find some at the Dollar Store, I might be able to modify them to work with the soap dispensers.

Hey Alison!Adding a piece of no-slip liner to the bottom of the jar will help prevent it from slipping and sliding in the shower.I have to keep coming up with something to protect it completely.

The koozies should work, but a balloon would help both with grip and provide some protection. There is a coordinating bathroom color. If you were willing to share your recipe, I would be interested.

Since I have a ceramic sink and my soap jars will be sitting on it, I was worried about breakage.I ordered double-sided cups from Amazon. It might be possible to prevent them from falling in the shower.

Do you think a painted mason jar will affect the soap?I can't wait to see your finished kitchen, you did a wonderful job.Good luck.

I would not paint the inside of the mason jar.Best of luck with your project!!

Those look great. If you want to make more in the future, you can get those pumps and screw ons online for cheap.

A year ago, I made a mason jar soap dispensers. It's now rusted. Thanks for the tip on spray paint.

Hi!I was wondering how picky it was about the glue.Would a hot glue gun work? What kind of paint should I use?

Hi Amy!I used Rust-Oleum spray paint and a water-resistant glue.Hope this helps!

Totally trying these!Did you spray paint the lid?The paint rubbed off when I tried to put the lid on.I was wondering if it was a big deal since you can't see it.

I did not spray underneath, and my rubbed off a tiny bit when I screwed on the lid.No one will notice!Hope you like the new soap dispensers!

Hi!I adore these and this post.I ran into a problem after making several of them. The pump doesn't pick up soap after a few days. The tube will stop working after a few days if I remove the lid and run it under warm water.Have you ever seen this?I used soap from Bath & Body Works.I cut them down to fit.Any ideas?Thank you for your assistance.!

That is strange!I haven't had any issues, but it sounds like the pump you're using is not working. It might be necessary to switch to a new pump.I can't be more helpful.

This has happened to me before.I will use Method #1 because it will allow me to remove the pump and replace it the next time it fails. When the pump fails you have to throw it out and start again, since Method #2 is glue on.The hope method will help the project last without having to do all the work over again.

I have a pump from a bottle of lotion, lots of mason jars, and a spray paint that I used for a soap dish in the bathroom, I first tried #1 and made it.

I'm happy!Which method works best for you?Have fun making soap dispensers.

This morning, I did it myself.I used a jar of soap in my bathroom.

There are a lot of different lids that can be added to mason jars at Michaels. These were also found at Target. You can use these new lids to change a mason jar into a drink jar, a storage container for spices, or even a liquid soap container with a pump.I have a hanging light fixture in my kitchen that has spaces for four clear glass shades that go over the lights.I replaced the glass shades with mason jars.

Your directions are stupid and dangerous. While attached to a jar, never hammer a nail or pointed object on the lid. It's too easy to break the jar and cut the glass. If someone is going to punch out the hole with a pointed object, place the lid on a soft piece of wood and hit the object.A better way to make the hole is to drill a hole with a electric drill and then use an aviation (tin) snips to cut it to size. The ragged edge around the hole can cut your fingers.

Maybe you could make your suggestion in a nicer way.Your style is atrocious, but your suggestion holds validity.

The plastic mason jars will be used if the kids are going to wash dishes.I will put the soap in the bathroom.I will make my own detergent in the laundry room with the help of the mason jars.

Thank you for the project!Making over my kitchen. This is a must do for me.

What a great idea.I am going to paint the Mason jar with chalk paint, even though I will be doing this for our bathroom.I don't have to change the wheel because of the step by step method.

These are very easy to make.I agree that method #2 is simple. After making a small hole in the center of the lid with a screwdriver or punch, I used a pair of needle-nose pliers to make the exact size I needed. The hole was straight and easy to open.

Where did you get the dispensers for the big mason jar?I have a big mason jar and want to use it, but I don't know what you used for it.Can you help me?

Hey Brooke!I think it was one of the larger ones. There are bottles with a pump.I hope this helps.

I just wanted to say I love your post!I am the Editor for Craft Box Girls and also the owner of Peachfullychic.I wanted to let you know that I highlighted your article on the site today. If you're interested, we'd love to have you guest post, and you can even link back to your site like I did.Think of us as an extension of your network. If you want to check it out yourself, you can go to CraftBox Girls.com.

This is an awesome project I am doing for my bathroom which is the ocean theme and it goes well with all my other glass and colors in the bathroom.I found use for my antique blue jars and had to use other lids, so I am storing them away in case I ever change ideas.I want to thank you for posting this project so I can finish it and use them when I get home. Thanks again, I'm going to use a large antique jar for the soap.Happy crafting!

My husband made one for me and I keep it at my kitchen sink.He is going to make more Christmas gifts.

I can't figure out how gluing the bottom of the lid makes the pump stable. What am I doing wrong? There is no glue on the underside of the lid. What am I doing wrong?

I made many of them because I loved them.I used a hot glue gun to make the first ones.Within the first few uses, the pump came loose. On the next ones I used E6000 and it held better but I have to use so much that it builds up on the lid. There isn't much to adhere to the rim of the pump.Do you have any suggestions?

I have jars in every age and size.I have a fear of bugs. The jars are used as cannisters.

Thank you for the wonderful video.I was not sure how to make a cup of these. Thanks for sharing.

I love these dispensers.I used a dremel tool to complete the hole after making the initial one.The jars are perfect for dispensers because I make my own soap. Thanks for sharing the idea.
