You can use anything to make earrings.Post earring backs, glue, and something to use for your earring are all you need.buttons are one of the best things to use for earrings. They are cheap, easy to find, and cute. Some wire and earring hooks can be used to make hook earrings. If you don't have pierced ears, use clip-on earring backs.
Step 1: You should get a pair of buttons.
It's best to use plain, 4-hole or 2-hole buttons. The coat-style buttons have a loop on the back.Make sure that the button you use is the same size as the earring posts.
Step 2: If you want, you can Prep the buttons.
If you want a cute look, pass some thread through the holes. If you use a 4-hole button, pass the thread through the holes to create an X-shape.Simply pass the thread through the holes if you are using a 2-hole button.Attach the thread to the back of the button, and then cut off any excess.Cut the loop off with a pair of heavy-duty wire cutters if you are using coat-style buttons. If you want to smooth the edges, use a piece of sandpaper.
Step 3: The buttons should be face down.
It's a good idea to do this on a piece of wax paper in case glue leaks out.You won't have to worry about this if you add thread to the buttons.
Step 4: Attach a bead of glue to an earring post.
Super glue, industrial-strength glue or some type of epoxy glue is the best glue to use for this.It may leak through the button holes if you put too much on.You can use clip-on earring backings if you don't have pierced ears.
Step 5: The post should be placed on the back of the button.
The post should be centered as possible. The holes should be used as guides if you are using a 4-hole button.
Step 6: Wait for the glue to dry.
This may take a few minutes, depending on the type of glue you are using. The earring may fall apart if you don't wait long.Refer to the label on your bottle or tube of glue for specific times to dry.
Step 7: Don't forget to wear your earrings.
Your earrings are ready to wear after the glue has dried. They may break apart if you are gentle when taking them out.
Step 8: Get a pair of buttons.
Plain 2-hole or 4-hole buttons can be used. You can use fabric-covered buttons or coat-style buttons with a loop on the back.
Step 9: If needed, prepare the buttons.
If you use 2-hole or 4-hole buttons, you don't need to prepare them.If you are using a coat-style button, or any other style of button that has a loop on the back, you will need to cut the loop off with a pair of wire cutter. When you are done, use a piece of fine-grit sandpaper to smooth the edges.
Step 10: The top part of a paperclip can be cut with a pair of wire cutter.
The loop for your earring will be created by this. The button needs to be shorter.A small piece of gold or silver wire can be bent into a narrow U-shape.You should match the color of your wire to the earring hook.If you have an earring hook that is gold, you should use gold wire.
Step 11: Attach the cut piece to the button.
The paperclip should be sticking out over the edge of the button. It doesn't need to stick out a lot so that you can thread your hook through. The best glue to use for this is a thick, industrial-strength glue.Super glue can be used if you are using a basic 2-hole or 4-hole button.
Step 12: Wait for the glue to dry.
The paperclip loop might break off if you move too soon.
Step 13: Use a pair of pliers to open the earring hook.
This may distort the loop, so don't pull it apart.
Step 14: Take the loop over the paperclip and twist it shut.
Your earrings will be backwards when you put them on if you don't make sure that the earring hook is facing the right.
Step 15: The process should be repeated for the other button.
Your earrings are ready to wear once you have done this.
Step 16: There is a button-making kit.
The kits usually include metal buttons and plastic pieces. The pieces are meant to help you put your buttons together. The packaging should be saved. It has a template for the fabric.
Step 17: Pull the metal loop out of the button back with a pair of pliers.
You can cut the metal loop off with a pair of wire cutters if you can't pull it out. When you are done, put the button backs away.
Step 18: The template can be used to trace a circle onto your fabric.
Each button has to have one circle for it.If your kit didn't come with a template, you should draw a circle twice the size of your button top. Some templates are shaped like a circle.Place the straight edge of the semi-circle along the fold when you fold your fabric in half.Cotton fabric is the best for this.It can be either plain or patterned.
Step 19: Use a pair of fabric scissors to cut your fabric.
It's important to be as neat as you can.The final product will be affected by small mistakes because of the small size.
Step 20: Stitch along the edges of the circle.
It will be easier to assemble the button. You should leave a long tail of thread and the needle still attached so that you can pull on it to gather the fabric later.
Step 21: The button maker should be placed right-side-down.
There are two plastic pieces. The fabric should be centerd as much as possible.
Step 22: Place the button cap on top of the fabric.
Push it down until it rests inside the button maker.
Step 23: Pull the thread to get the fabric.
The button should now have fabric around it.Stitch in place a few times, then tie the thread off into a knot. For the next step, this will keep the fabric in place.
Step 24: The button needs to be pushed in place.
If you need to use the button cover tool, place it on top, then hit it with a hammer. When you are done, remove the button cover tool.
Step 25: Attach an earring post to your button.
Press the earring post onto the back of your button if you want to use super glue.If you don't have pierced ears, use clip-on earring backings instead.
Step 26: Wait for the glue to dry before you wear your earrings.
The amount of time the glue takes to dry depends on the type of glue you are using. Some only need a few minutes to dry, while others need hours.Refer to your glue bottle for specific times to dry.Your earrings are ready to wear once the glue has dried.
