A plastic bottle trap is a great way to reduce the number of mosquitoes on your property. The liquid in each trap can be easily replaced.Multiple traps can be placed around your house or property for increased effectiveness.
Step 1: You should gather your materials.
You can use the items below to make a mosquito trap.Every item can be found at your local hardware store. An empty bottle, marker, pen, box cutter, tape, and cup are needed.
Step 2: A mark should be made halfway down the bottle.
The 2 liter bottle has a lid that is about 10 cm in diameter. You can use a ruler or tape to find where the bottle is.The tape can be extended to 4 inches. The end of the tape should be above the bottle's lid.Use your pen to mark the end of the tape measure.
Step 3: Draw a circle around the bottle.
You will cut the bottle in half. You don't need to be exact, but drawing a marked guide line will be helpful. You can use a pen mark to draw a circle around the bottle. This will help you cut the bottle in half.
Step 4: The bottle needs to be cut in half.
The bottle needs to be cut along the guide line. You can use both parts of the bottle to make the trap.As you cut, be careful with plastic edges. If you are a bit off from the marked guide line, you don't have to worry.
Step 5: The lower half of the bottle has hot water in it.
Since it is hot, you don't want to splash the water since it could burn you.
Step 6: The brown sugar should be put in the lower half of the bottle.
The brown sugar should be put into the lower half of the bottle.Don't spill anything over the edges.Once you have emptied the measuring cup, set it aside.
Step 7: Allow the mixture to cool.
It takes hot water to cool the bottle.Twenty minutes should be enough.
Step 8: The yeast should be added to the bottle.
You don't have to stir it.The mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide produced by the yeast.
Step 9: The bottle is upside down.
The bottle's lid will be facing downward. If you hold the top half of the bottle upside down, grab the bottom half with your other hand.
Step 10: The top half of the bottle should be upside down.
The cut edges should align when you push the top inside. The bottle needs to be above the water line. The mosquito can fly in the bottle and down the lid.If there isn't enough room for them to fly in the bottle, take a little of the solution out.insects can die from suffocation or starvation if they fly into the trap.
Step 11: Place tape on the edges.
To keep the edges aligned, use tape. The edges of the bottle should be kept in place with a few pieces of tape.
Step 12: The trap should be placed near the mosquitos.
Place the trap in a room or area that has mosquitoes. The optimal surface is a desk, counter, or floor. The trap shouldn't be in people's way.
Step 13: When the bottle is full of dead insects, notice.
Many mosquitos will die in the bottle and you will have to clean the trap for it to be effective again. If there aren't many mosquitos, the liquid in the trap loses its effectiveness because all the yeast has eaten the sugar and no longer attracts mosquitoes. You can use a calendar to keep track of when you need to change the liquid. If the bottle is full of insects, you should change the liquid.
Step 14: The yeast and sugar solution should be changed when necessary.
This mosquito trap is not disposable.Remove the tape to disassemble the trap. The trap should be washed by rinsing it with water.Next, add more of the mosquito trap liquid.
