Paper crafts are a lot of fun.A few folds and some creativity can turn a few sheets of paper into a battleship. The paper craft itself is very easy to do, but you can change the appearance of your boat all the time.Go wild with your own creativity if you get the basic shape together.
Step 1: Pick a type of paper.
Every craft project should start with the right materials. The use and function of your boat will be affected by the paper you choose to make it.The most common paper used in this project is construction paper, which is colorful and easy to work with.Newspaper is a good choice because it folds well and resists water.A rectangular piece is needed.Larger sizes will increase the boat's floatability.
Step 2: Put two pieces of paper together.
The stability of the boat will be improved by using more than one piece. It will help if you're trying to make your boat look like it's ready to fight. The sheets should be folded as if they were one piece. The stability of your boat can be increased by doubling the amount of paper.
Step 3: The paper should be folded in half.
Place your paper on a flat surface and fold it in half.Make sure you fold it in half. The entire craft will be ruined by incorrect folding at this early stage. It is important to go over your fold thoroughly.Press it down with your finger. To get a more precise fold, you should line up the corners of the paper together.
Step 4: The corners should be folded into the center.
Pull the top corners towards the center once you have folded your paper in half. The two triangles should meet in the center with a strip of uncovered paper at the bottom. The corners should line up evenly if you're having trouble finding the center. If you're still having trouble, try measuring the paper with a ruler and drawing a thin pencil line in the middle. You will get a target to aim for with this.
Step 5: The bottom strips should be folded upward.
If you're using multiple strips of paper, divide the bottom strip in two.Take each half and fold it in half. The shape of a smaller triangle should be on top of the folded rectangles.Continue after you fold.If your fold doesn't crease smoothly, try pinching it with your fingers or running your finger along it.
Step 6: You can open up the bottom.
Pull the bottom rectangular flaps away from each other. The boat will be opened and turned into a three-dimensional object. The boat should be pulled open.As you pull it open, be gentle and not to crease any of the folds you've creased.Pull open the body from the corners. It should take on a diamond shape after opening the bottom. If the shape doesn't look right, it's probably because your measurements were wrong.
Step 7: Put your boat upright.
It's time to see how your boat is doing after you have folded it and opened it.The boat should be upright with a triangle tip poking out from the top. With the folds all done, you'll be able to decorate it as you please.
Step 8: Start with a large piece of paper.
If you want to make a more advanced paper battleship, you can start with a large square of paper.Once the body is finished, you will have to add details and other pieces to the larger piece of paper. If you're not sure what size you want, 1x1 feet is a good place to start.
Step 9: The center of the square has a gate folding into it.
Pull half of the paper to the centre line of your square if the square is facing towards you.If you don't know where the center should be, draw a thin line with a pencil and measure it out.One of these individual folds is referred to as a valley fold.A gate fold is comprised of two folds. The folds should look like a gate that is ready to open.
Step 10: Do another gate fold after turning the paper around.
It's time to do the same from another angle once you have your first gatefold complete. You should unfold the gatefold you made.Pull the two halves of the square together to make a new gate.Once you're done, unfold.
Step 11: The square needs to be folded both ways.
You should have a grid with folds that make sixteen squares after unfolding two gate folds. The paper should be unfolded after each time the square is folded. When you fold your battleship, these folds will be useful.
Step 12: You can make two inside reverse folds.
Your boat will start to form here. The paper should be turned over on the other side.To make a pyramid, push the corners upward.Take all of the corners and fold them down. When you have finished these folds, turn the boat over. It's ready to be decorated. If you have completed your inside reverse folds, you should have a square pyramid shape in the center with four arms jutting from the pyramid's corners. The inside reverse fold is difficult to master. It's important to figure out the individual fold before moving on with it.
Step 13: Extra pieces should be Glued on.
Most boats carry equipment, whether you're making a full-on battleship or a little tugboat.A few things you might add to your vessel are radar, extra sails, cannons and top decks.Light cardboard should be put on top of anything that cannot be drawn on directly.Attach the pieces according to your idea. They should be centered on your boat.If you want to make your boat seaworthy, you need to keep your weight in check. It is possible to do this to any boat design.
Step 14: You should draw on the details.
The artist's touches will make a great craft. There is a world of potential difference made in fine details, even if you don't try to make a realistic battleship with a paper craft.Drawing on details like stern wear or little crewmen will bring life to your boat even if it is floating down the river.
Step 15: You should give your boat a coat.
If you're going to make your boat float, you should cover it with a water-based paint.Water resistance will keep your boat afloat for longer and give it a fresh sense of decor. If you're going for a realistic looking craft, a steely grey or silver is the best choice.A paintbrush can be used to apply paint to the boat.An old toothbrush can be used to make smaller strokes on a boat if you don't have a precision toothbrush.
Step 16: There are different colors for the bottom and top.
There are two colors for the top and bottom of a real-life ship.A simple two-color pattern is perfect for a crafts boat.
Step 17: It should be launched into the water.
A paper boat with its bottom flaps open can float on water for a while. If you want to see how long your bathtub lasts, you can fill it up.Taking your craft to a river or park lake will make for a better photo op.You and a friend should make their own boats. If you want to see which one stays afloat the longest, place them in the water at the same time!If you place your boat in the water, it will not be saved for a second use.If you're lost at sea, you won't have to worry because craft boats are very easy to make.
