There are a couple ways to offer download links on your website.The ability to upload a file at the same time as you make a link is offered by websites that offer website building tools.If you build your own site from the ground up, you can use simple code for files hosted on your server.
Step 1: If you don't have anHTML page, create one.
Your download link will be added to a web page.If you don't have an existing website, you can create a basic page to test out the download link.You can see how to create a simple web page.
Step 2: You can open a folder on your server for both the page and file.
The easiest way to link a file is to put it in the same folder as the page'sHTML file.Use the control panel file manager or the file browser in your program to navigate to the folder you'll be adding the link to.Since you've uploaded your site there before, your FTP client should connect to it.If it isn't, you can use How to UseFTP for instructions on configuring your client to connect to your server.You can access your server files through the web management interface if your web server has an online control panel.When you sign into your site as an administrator, you'll be able to access this.The "File Manager" option is located in the control panel.You can see the platform-specific instructions in the methods below if you created your website using a website creation tool.
Step 3: You can create a link to the file by uploading it.
You can upload any type of file, from PDF files to ZIP files.Large files can eat through your allotted bandwidth pretty quickly, and some server may limit the size of the file you are allowed to upload.Browsers can block potentially malicious files from being downloaded by your visitors.Drag the file into the folder in the window that you want it to be uploaded to.Immediately, it will begin uploading.It may take a while for the file to be uploaded because your upload speeds will be slower than your download speeds.The "Upload" button is located at the top of the window if you are using the virtual control panel file manager.You can find the file you want to upload on your computer.It may take a while for large files to be uploaded to your server.
Step 4: If you want to add a link to your code editor, open the page.
You'll need to add a link to the file on your website once it's uploaded.You can add the link to the file by opening it.You can use the control panel file manager to open it.Right-click the file on your server and use "open with" to open it in your code or text editor.
Step 5: You can find the spot on the page that you want to add the link.
You want to insert your download link in the code that you put your cursor in.This could be at the bottom of a page or in a paragraph.
Step 6: The code should be added to the link.
You can enter the following code for your download link.After they click the link, this will start the download for them.You just need to use the name and extension if the file is in the same folder as theHTML file.The folder structure is required if the file is located in another folder.The file was uploaded in the same location as theHTML file.Users with these browsers will have to save the file manually.
Step 7: A download button is needed.

Step 8: The downloaded file should be renamed.

Step 9: You can save the changes to your file.
If you need to make changes to your file, save them and then reupload it.You can see your download button live on your website.
Step 10: You can open your site in the editor.
You can add a download link to any of your pages if you use the built-in tools.Use the admin account to log into your dashboard.
Step 11: If you want the link to appear, place your mouse over it.
You can either put the link in the middle of the paragraph or create a new line for it.
Step 12: Click the button if you want to add media.
The posting tools can be found at the top of the page.
Step 13: Click the "Upload Files" tab and drag the file into the window.
A variety of different files can be uploaded, but the size may be limited by your account type.It may take a little while for files to be uploaded.
Step 14: There is a description for the file.
A description can be entered in the Add Media window.The download link will display the text.
Step 15: Click on the "Insert into post/page" button.
The download link will be at the location of your browser.This link will lead to an attachment page, not the actual file.It's a limitation of the software.
Step 16: You can open your website with the Weebly editor.
Go to the Weebly site and use the editor to open your web page.
Step 17: Select the text or object you want to link to.
You can highlight text in a text field or choose an image to turn into a download link for your file.
Step 18: You can click the "link" button.
This looks like a chainlink when you have text selected, and can be found at the top of the text editor.The image control panel has a link that you can click when you have an image selected.
Step 19: Click "upload a file" when you select "File"
You can open the file browser with this.
Step 20: You can make the file available for download.
The file will begin uploading after you select it.Basic users are limited to files of less than 5 MB.Premium users have a 100 MB file size limit.
Step 21: You can show the new link on your site.
The link will be ready after uploading the file.You can push your changes to the live site by clicking the Publish button.Visitors will be able to click on the link to download the file.
Step 22: Your website can be opened in the editor.
Log into the Wix website and load your website in the site editor if you use it to create and manage your site.
Step 23: Select the image or text that you want to link to.
Links can be created from text or images.
Step 24: Turn your selection into a link.
The process for text and images is different.The button is similar to a chainlink.This will open the menu.From the "When image is clicked" menu, select "A link open".You can add a link in the "What does the link do?" section.The section.The link menu will open with this.
Step 25: From the list of link options, select "Document".
You will be able to Upload various document files.
Step 26: Click the button to choose the file.
This will open the file uploader.
Step 27: You can drag the file into the window.
Only DOC, PDF, PPT, XLS, and ODT files can be uploaded.You're limited to uploading documents.The file size is limited to 15 MB.
Step 28: You should publish your site.
Your link is ready to go once you've uploaded the file.Push your changes to the live site by clicking thePublish button in the upper-right corner.
Step 29: Go to the site editor.
Go to the GoDaddy website and open your website in the editor, if you used the site builder.
Step 30: Select the text that you want to link to.
Any object on your site can be turned into a link, as well as any text from your text boxes.Click the "Button" option from the left menu to create a download button.
Step 31: You can create a link from your text.
To open the menu, click the settings button if you have an object selected.The "link" button in the text formatting tools looks like a chainlink if you have selected text.
Step 32: Click the red arrow if you want toUpload.
You will be able to select the file you want to put on your website.
Step 33: You can find the file you want to uploaded by clicking the "Browse" button.
The files are limited to 30 MB.You can't uploads potentially dangerous types of files.
Step 34: Once the file has uploaded, click "Insert".
There is a checkmark next to the file in the window.
Step 35: To create a link, click "Save"
Clicking "Save" will apply the file to the object.
Step 36: You can save the changes to your site by clicking "Publish".
Visitors will be able to download the linked file when your new link is live.
