Most people think that only dogs like to go for walks, but other animals do too.Cats, iguanas, and even chickens are some of the pets that people walk.If you want to take your chickens for a walk, you should use a harness with a leash.Make a harness for the chicken owner.
Step 1: Take a look at your chicken's neckline and waist.
Wrap your measuring tape around your chicken's waist.Once you create the pattern, the wraparound arms of the harness will create an H-shape.The middle line of the H is the same as other standard pet harnesses.Don't tighten the measuring tape too much or too little. You should have at least two fingers between your chicken and tape.
Step 2: Cut your harness fabric after drawing and cutting out the pattern on scrap fabric.
Draw the H-shaped pattern on the scrap fabric. The H needs to wrap around your chicken's neckline and waist.Make sure the arms of the H are wide enough to allow for the clasps to stick together. The width of standard sewing Velcro is 0.75 inches.Make sure your harness is at least 0.25 inches wider than the Velcro on both sides to secure it.The length of the harness arms is determined by the neckline and waistline, so if you want to keep your chicken out of harm's way, you need to use your Velcro pieces as long as necessary.
Step 3: There is scrap fabric on your chicken.
The old saying goes, "measure twice, cut once." Place the middle line of H-shaped fabric along the back of the chicken and wrap the arms around its neckline and waistline. It's important to make sure the fabric wraps around the chicken.Re-test your chicken if the pattern is too loose.Re-draw the pattern on more scrap fabric if it is too tight.
Step 4: Cut out the pattern from the harness fabric.
Use fabric shears or heavy-duty scissors to cut out your pattern after drawing it on your harness fabric. One H-shaped piece is all you need.canvas is a stretchy fabric that is lightweight and sturdy, which makes it a good choice for pet harnesses. Now that your harness is cut to the correct shape, make sure to cut your Velcro pieces in the right size.
Step 5: Cut out a piece of strap from the canvas fabric.
The back of the harness has something attached to it.The D-ring is a lightweight piece of metal that your chicken's leash will clip onto. The H-shaped harness piece should be about 1 inch shorter than the strap piece.
Step 6: The back of the harness has a strap.
The H-shaped piece should be pinned to the back with a needle.A zig-zag stitch is used to secure heavy fabric together.Don't sew the top of the strap to the harness. Before you sew the bottom to the harness, you need to slip the D-ring on.After sliding the D-ring onto the strap, sew the bottom of it to the harness. The D-ring is for the chicken leash.
Step 7: The arms of the harness have pieces of Velcro on them.
To secure the Velcro to the harness, you need to go over the edges twice. The more secure the stitch, the better.
Step 8: Use a finishing stitch to finish your harness.
You can finish a hem with a simple standard stitch, like you used for securing the Velcro to the arms of the harness, or you can try a zigzag edge.
Step 9: Before you put the harness on your chicken, be calm.
Any animal getting fitted for a new harness is likely to be picky. If you want to calm the chickens down, try petting them first.Wait a few hours and try again if you can't get the harness on the chicken.
Step 10: Carefully put the harness on.
Take your time, both of you are new to the harness. It's a good time to double-check that the harness fits.Make sure the Velcro closes completely and gently.
Step 11: Get your chicken used to being in a harness.
If you put the harness on your chicken daily, they will get used to it.Take your chicken for a walk after a few days when you put the harness on.
