A crossbow is a weapon that has a bow mounted on a stick. It shoots bolts at a target.Modern crossbows have a string attached to a pulley system to make it easier to draw back with increased power as the bolt is fired. The smooth release of the bolt is ensured by the pulley system. You can make your own crossbow with supplies from your local hardware store.
Step 1: The stock should be measured for wood.
The stock needs to be comfortable for your arms.Start with a pine board that is around 38 inches long, 2 inches wide, and two inches tall.If you hold it in your hands, it will look like a rifle with one end pressed against your shoulder.Marks the wood where you want it to be cut.The more power you achieve, the longer your stock is.It's not wise to go over 1 meter so the bow won't break.
Step 2: The wood was cut off.
To cut the wood on the mark you made, use a circular or hand saw.Make sure you don't have sawdust in your eyes by wearing safety goggles. There is a well ventilated area.
Step 3: The area should be marked for a triggering event.
As a crossbow stock, hold up the wood with one end pressed against your shoulder and your hands gripping it.It's a good idea to make a small mark where you feel comfortable. The center of the rounded shape is where you marked thetrigger. The top of the pine wood is where this needs to be drawn. It should be around 4 inches long and 1 inch wide. The center of the wood is where you have marked it.
Step 4: The wood has a rectangular shape.
While being careful not to split the wood, you can use a chisel, drill, and wood rasp to carve out wood within the rectangular area.Once you have a rectangular shaped hole, use a combination of all three tools to slowly remove the wood inside. After you have finished, use sandpaper to smooth the area around the hole.
Step 5: To hold the string, make the grooves.
The place for the string to rest will be created by the grooves. The grooves are created by using a chisel or wood rasp. After it is cut, sand the grooves.
Step 6: Cut the grooves that hold the bolts.
The grove will be centered and extended from the hole to the end of the wood. The center of the wood is farthest from the grooves. The center of the hole is farthest from the string grooves. There is a straight line between the two marks. To carve a 14 inch deep channel, use a drill, chisel, and hammer. The grooves should be sanded until they are completely smooth.
Step 7: The grip should be created when shooting.
The grip can be made with a second piece of pine wood. The wood should be around 8 inches long.Attach it to the bottom of the stock with wood glue or PVC glue. For at least an hour, leave the glue to dry.
Step 8: The wood should be protected with a sealer.
To protect the wood from the elements, use varnish, wood stain, or another wood seal.Wait until the glue has dried completely.
Step 9: Cut the pipe.
You can cut a 1” pipe into a 36 inch length with a hacksaw.Measure and mark the length before cutting.
Step 10: Go into the ends of the pipe.
On each end of the pipe, use a hacksaw to cut a small grooves just large enough to fit a wood screw.
Step 11: Attach the pulleys
The string will feed through the pulleys if they are attached to the end of the bow. There is a screw on the ends of the pipe.Attach the pulleys to the wood screws with wire ties.
Step 12: The string needs to be Threaded.
The nylon string needs to be threaded through the pulleys to fire the crossbow.Attach the nylon string to the wood screw on the left side of the pipe. The string should be looped around the pulley on the right end of the pipe.Bring the sting back to the left side and loop the string around the pulley.Bring the string back to the right and tie it to a wood screw. If you wrap the string around the pulleys, you won't be able to pull it back to fire the crossbow.
Step 13: The string should be checked for accuracy.
The string needs to be threaded correctly. The string should run across the pipe three times. To make sure you have threaded the string correctly, do a quick test.Pull the strings out of the pulleys. The pipe should move like a bow.Pull the thread out if the pipe does not bend like a bow.
Step 14: There is a bow on the end of the stock.
The wood of the stock needs to be carved into a grooves for the round pipe.To fit the pipe on the end of the wood stock, you can use a wood rasp or chisel. The grooves need to be deep enough to fit the pipe.Carve slowly and check how the pipe fits. The perfect fit will be ensured by this. There shouldn't be room for the pipe to move.
Step 15: The bow should be secured to the stock.
Proper use of the bow is ensured by securing it to the stock. The crossbow needs the strings in the right place to work.Duct tape can be used to wrap the pipe around the stock and the end of the wood stock. The firing string should be on top of the wood. The firing process shouldn't be affected by the other two strings being on the bottom.
Step 16: The bow should be tested.
The bow should fire correctly if the strings are in the right place. The firing string should be put in the string notch on the rectangle hole.It should be prepared by itself. To hold the string, you need to make the grooves deeper.
Step 17: The wood has to be cut for the system.
A thinner piece of pine wood is needed to create the system. There is a rough L-shape on the wood. The box you carved in the stock should be smaller than the horizontal portion of the L shape.Use a saw to cut out the L-shape from the wood. The piece of wood is L-shaped.It should be smooth when you sand it.
Step 18: A channel can be created on the Trigger.
To carve a 18 inch channel across the short part of the L-shaped wood, use a wood rasp or chisel.
Step 19: The wood has a hole in it.
The hole should be drilled by the corner of the L.The hole should be big enough for the nail to fit.
Step 20: Attach the device.
Attach thetrigger onto the stock so that it can pop the string out of the grooves when pulled. The L pointing forward is what you should put in the rectangle hole.Don't hit the back of the hole if it has space to move.Use a hammer to push a nail through the stock and hold the L-shapedtrigger in place at the angle.
Step 21: You have to sand the gun.
Sand paper can be used to fine tune the action.
Step 22: The handle needs to be cut.
The crossbow's handle is what you hold to steady it.To make a handle out of pine wood, cut a 20 centimetre (8 inch) length. It should be in the rough shape of a handle.
Step 23: Attach the handle to the stock
The handle needs to be behind thetrigger to fire the crossbow.Attach the handle to the stock with glue or wood.Wait an hour for the glue to dry.If you want to secure it on the stock, you can use a hammer to drive a few nails into the handle.
Step 24: Put padding on the butt.
padding the butt of the crossbow will make it more comfortable.Duct tape is placed on your shoulder with foam around the end of the stock.
Step 25: The bolts should be the right size.
Bolts that fit the crossbow's channel are required. You can either buy bolts from a store or make your own.To make your own bolts, cut a dowel to fit the size of the channel on your crossbow, and make a notch on the end of it to hold the string.
Step 26: Put a target in place.
To aim your crossbow, use a cardboard box or piece of paper with circles.Make sure you are away from other people.
Step 27: Try to fire your crossbow.
Try out your crossbow at a safe place. The bolts should shoot from 65 to 100 feet.Have fun!
