Batman is a favorite among both kids and adults.Making a Batman mask is a great way to complete your look.Whether you're after a simple eye mask or a complete head covering mask, there is a Batman mask that is right for you.You can use a mask template, foam, or a complete head covering.Duct tape can be used to make a mask for a custom fit.
Step 1: Take a picture of your face.
Measure the distance between the nose and the eyes, the height of the wearer's face, and half the circumference of their head.Measure your mask to make a template.Wrap the tape measure around the front of the face to measure the distance between the ears.Measure the distance from the nose to the forehead.Measure the distance between the nose and the eyes, as well as the dimensions of their eyes.
Step 2: The mask outline can be sketched on plain paper.
You can create a custom-fit to the wearer's face with your measurements.Draw a horizontal line that matches the width of the person's face.
Step 3: Draw the part of the mask that covers the nose.
Make a mark 1 inch below the line if you can find the middle of it.To draw a line from the right to the left, use a ruler.Draw a second line from the left-hand end of the line to the point. The lines should meet in a slight peak below the center of the original line.
Step 4: Take a look at the outline of the ears and mask.
The ears will move upward from the ends of the horizontal line. From the edge of the original line, draw two curved vertical lines. The lines should equal the height measurement from the nose to the forehead, plus an additional 3 inches. On the end of each side line, draw a curved line. The base of each triangle should be 2 inches (5 cm) wide, and the lines should come inward. The ears of the mask are made of triangles. The two top triangles are connected by a line.
Step 5: There are eye holes.
Take a look at two almond-shape eyes holes. The location of the eye holes should match the distance between the wearer's nose and the bottom of their eyes.Take the horizontal line from the center to the bottom edge of the eye.The sides of the wearer's eyes should be larger than the eye holes. The almond shape has a narrow part that points inward.
Step 6: Take everything out.
The outline of the mask and eye outlines can be cut with scissors.
Step 7: Attach the shape to the foam.
The shape of the mask and eyes can be transferred with a pen. While a black Batman mask is the most traditional choice, you can use any color you want if you plan on making these masks as favors.
Step 8: The mask needs to be removed.
Use scissors to cut out the outline of the mask.
Step 9: There are two small holes on the side of the mask.
The holes should be aligned with the center of the eye holes. You could use the tip of your scissors, but a hole punch works well for this.
Step 10: Attach the elastic thread to the holes.
One end of the elastic should be tied into one hole and the other into another. The elastic has to be long enough to fit around the wearer's head.To hold it in place, double knot the thread.
Step 11: Cut a piece of paper.
You should be able to keep your hair out of your head.Measure the diameter of your head using a tape measure. The measurement for the length of the rectangle should be 1 inch.Take the height of your head from top to bottom.Add 5 inches. This is the length of the piece of paper.Thin cardboard could also be used. You can use brown or white if you can't find black. The mask needs to be painted when you're done.
Step 12: The top of the mask should be drawn.
You need to draw the ears with the upper edge of the mask.Use a tape measure to measure the space between your ears.Start at the front of one ear and wrap the tape measure around your face until you reach the other ear.Measure with the back of your head.Wrap the tape measure around the back of your head and put it in your other ear.Add 1/2 inch to the back measurement. There is a horizontal line on the left side of the card stock. On the other side of the card stock, draw a matching line.In between the two lines, draw a third line that matches the measurement of your face.Between this line and the original two, leave 1 to 2 inches of empty space. At each end of the inner line, draw a vertical line. The line should go up to the top of the piece of paper. You can draw a curved line from the top of the vertical lines down to the ends of your horizontal lines.
Step 13: You should draw a space for your mouth and chin.
There are three shapes at the bottom of the mask. One should face the correct way and the other should be backwards. The bottom of the shapes should connect, but the top should not.Take the distance from the bottom of your nose to your chin. The height of your mouth hole is shown here.Measure the distance between the inside of one eye and the outside of the other. This is the length of the mouth hole.
Step 14: The bottom outline needs to be finished.
You need to separate the bottom from the top. From the bottom point of each "3" shape, draw two curved lines upward. The lines should be 3 inches tall and 2 inches away from the "3" shape at the widest part. There will be outlines on either side of the opening for the mouth. The curved lines have a horizontal line at the upper end.The side of the card stock should have horizontal lines extending to it.
Step 15: Take out the eyes.
The shape of your eyes should be slightly larger than the almond shaped eyes you have. The eyes have to tilt upward.Measure the distance between your nose and eyes to find out where to put the eye holes.
Step 16: Everything should be cut out.
To create your basic outline, cut along all of the lines.
Step 17: The two edges need to be connected.
Curve the ends so that they meet at the back of the mask.Glue them together with tape. There can be between 1/2 inch and 1 inch of overlap between the two ends.
Step 18: Take out a nose piece.
The nose piece is made from a single piece of paper.Measure the height and width of your nose.Add a quarter of an inch to each measurement.A diamond is at the corner of a piece of paper. The nose measurements should match the diamond.Put the diamond in half vertically.
Step 19: Attach the nose to the mask.
A diamond shape can be drawn at the nose portion of your mask.It should be the same length and width as your nose. The mask base needs to be cut out.Glue or tape the nose to the edge.
Step 20: A top is needed for the mask.
You can trace a circle over the top of your mask with a piece of card stock. This circle needs to be cut out.
Step 21: Attach the top.
There is a layer of glue on the mask.Press the top circle onto the glue and let it dry.
Step 22: There is a plastic grocery bag.
Make sure the bag doesn't cover your eyes or nose by placing it over your head.Your hair and sides of your head should be covered by plastic. The remaining excess can be trimmed. The plastic protects against the duct tape.
Step 23: The bag should be covered with duct tape.
Attach the strips of duct tape to the bag.You will make a helmet out of duct tape by covering the entire bag.Don't put the duct tape on your skin or hair, just attach it to the plastic. It is possible to begin at the top of your head and work your way around to the front, sides, and back. You have plastic covering your forehead. The duct tape should come down to your eyebrows first, then over your ears and around the back of your neck.Black duct tape is the best for best results. It won't be difficult to color silver duct tape later.
Step 24: A nose covering is needed.
A strip of duct tape should be folded in half.Attach the strip to the center of the forehead portion of your mask.Attach two more strips of duct tape from the nose piece to your ears. This will make a "T" shape that goes between your eyes and your nose.Don't cover your mouth. There should be no spaces for eye holes. To get a snug fit around your cheeks and nose, apply more duct tape.
Step 25: An outline is needed for a nose.
The mirror has a mask base on it.Draw a triangle around your nose from the top of the bridge to the bottom.
Step 26: Attach the nose with cardboard.
To build your nose piece, you will need to cut out two pieces of cardboard.Attach the pieces to the mask using more duct tape after cutting them out.You might be able to remove the mask temporarily. To create a pointed nose piece, tape the cardboard triangles to the mask.
Step 27: The lower part of the mask needs to be created.
To cover the rest of your cheeks, use more plastic bag material and duct tape.Cut two circles to cover your cheeks. There is a cross strip going under your eyes. The cheeks of the mask should be covered with duct tape. The mouth and chin should remain open.
Step 28: The ears should be created.
Each ear should be made from three strips of the same material.Put the prisms together with more duct tape.Attach the ears at the top of the mask to your ears.Attach the ears with more duct tape.As you wrap the ear shapes in duct tape, you should bend them slightly inward so that they have a more rounded and less rigid appearance. In general, the ears should be tall and narrow. The base should be 2 inches (5 cm) wide. The length should be between 6 and 15 inches.
Step 29: Cut the mask.
The mask needs to be removed from your head. The eye holes, nose, and lower edge can be defined with additional layers of plastic bag material and duct tape. The mask should be filled with wadded grocery bags to prevent it from collapsing as you work. The shape of the mask eyes should be defined. The holes should be larger than the shape of your eyes.To create a smooth edge along the nose and the rest of the mask, use tape.Remove any plastic that is visible. If you wanted, you could cover the mask with another layer of tape to hide the tape lines and give it more structure.
Step 30: Try the mask for the last time.
At this point, it should be done.If you don't like the shape or look of the mask, continue sculpting it while looking at yourself in the mirror.
Step 31: The mask template can be downloaded.
To access the file on your computer, save the picture file to your hard drive.
Step 32: Attach the paper to your printer.
You can make your mask more durable by printing it on heavy weight paper. To make sure the paper feeds through the printer correctly, set the settings for your printer.
Step 33: You can print the template file.
You can open the mask template with your computer's PDF reader or Microsoft Word.
Step 34: The mask needs to be cut out.
Cut around the edge of the mask template with scissors.Cut out the eyes with scissors in the middle of the mask.
Step 35: Attach a string to the mask.
A hole punch can be used to make a hole on each side of the mask.Attach the string to the mask.Hold the mask up to your face by tying one end of the string.Attach the string to the other side of the mask by wrapping it around the back of your head.To avoid tearing the mask when you wear it, reinforce the holes and attached string with a piece of tape.
